I'm hosting a joint thanksgiving for about 28 people this Saturday at my friend's place. From the start I said, I will foot the bill for the entire thing because then I can make sure that we have enough food, drink, etc...
People started grumbling because they wanted to bring stuff. Someone was like well, too bad I'm making 2 pumpkin pies and bringing that. This person emailed me yesterday and was like I don't have a pie plate and I don't know how to make crust. The Whole Foods pie feeds 4-6 people. I'll bring one of those. For 28 people. Many of which are really excited for pumpkin pie (AKA the Brits who have never had it)
Thankfully I already ordered some other desserts, but now I need to go back and order more pumpkin pie. This is why I hate delegating important things like pumpkin pie.

That's SUPER annoying. Like do people not realize how many pies you need to feed that many people?? SO MANY PIES.
We're hosting this year too, but there are only 8 of us, including my dad's cousin who is kosher and semi-vegetarian and basically bringing her own dinner because of it. I'm ordering everything else from Whole Foods.
I'm sad and a little cranky that we aren't hosting this year. I love cooking the dinner, partially because I'm a control freak. My mom is a great cook but I like doing things my way. I realize cooking a huge dinner in a boot would be a miserable experience and I need to be grateful my mom tagged herself in this year.
Plus, going to my parents means we have to deal with the ferries on thanksgiving, which is pretty much the worst day of the year to deal with ferries. We're planning to spend the night, but I'm still in need of a dog sitter. The lady we usually use is booked. I need to ask my cousin but I feel bad asking someone to do it over the holidays.

I still don't know where we're going for Thanksgiving. Allegedly we are going to spend it with my mom's side of the family. So probably at one of my aunt's homes. I hate last minute stuff, but at least I don't have to cook. H is going to bake some Mac & Cheese to bring because he feels like a mooch if he doesn't bring food. However, I have no shame in being a holiday mooch.
I'm more excited for the Whiner/Seahawk game on Thanksgiving, then a Husky basketball game on Friday, and Apple Cup on Saturday!

Can I have a happy vent about Turkey Day? We're bowing out of family holidays this year, so we're staying home and doing everything ourselves. I couldn't be happier!!!

That's frustrating. I would have been tempted to email them back and ask them to purchase 3 pumpkin pies.
This is why we escape each year for Thanksgiving. We head to Whistler with friends (who have kids E & P's age). In total there will likely be 13 of us (if another family has dinner with us). We do the full meal (which usually the guys make while we ski because they want to watch football) and eat in our comfy pants. Then put on a movie for the kids while we drink wine and play games. So casual and I love it.
Try joan with fetch pet care Seattle. She watched betty a few times before we moved and we had a good experience.
This is the other piece of my vent. Coco isn't really allowed at my parents'. Allergies and neat freak tendencies. They aren't really dog people. Another reason I prefer turkey day being at our house. Coco loves thanksgiving and I feel bad leaving her out.

We are going to be home for Thanksgiving and I like furry friends. We have two cats and two dogs already, but if Coco needs a place to spend Thanksgiving and Fed Way isn't too far, know you have an option in me. mkate710

I'm working at the petshotel on Thanksgiving, which I have no problem with. The only thing is that I'm scheduled during the Cowboy's game. FWP here!
But I do love working there on Thanksgiving, it's very chill and I love hanging out with all the dogs! (heart) THERE IS GOING TO BE FIVE HUSKIES! And yes, they are from the same family. Seriously. I love it.
I have to go to relatives that I see once a year for a family reunion Thanksgiving. They live very far away. I told my mom I need to leave by 4 so E can see his dad and I can go to my dad's and watch the game. The host, who never accommodates any one else's plans and whose family made a reunion impossible last year said dinner is at 4, no explanation or offer to move. So, I can drive an hour each way to see family and not have Thanksgiving dinner or eat and get back late, so E doesn't see his dad & I miss 1/2 the game. So annoyed.

No vents here We're volunteering and serving the elderly on Thanksgiving. We've got a nice dinner planned for the night before and will stock the wine so we can relax all weekend.
my mom is cooking thanksgiving at our Phx condo. we ordered Turkey from Rudy's barbeque but my mom wants to try a few new recipes, which makes me very nervous because we literally have like 2 pans and a few spatulas. I think she is underestimating how many baking dishes and crap she will need, all of which we don't have...
