I need reassurances that if I don't run between now and next Thursday that I will be okay for my 5 mile Turkey Trot. I was doing the dishes last night and whacked my ankle bone on the outside of my leg on the corner of the open dishwasher. It was very painful so I immediately put ice on it and took some motrin. I woke up this morning and its still painful and bruising and felt weird - like there was a thick elastic was wrapped around my lower leg/ankle. The weird feeling went away when I showered so I'm assuming it was because I wasn't moving it last night when I was sleeping. Obviously I hope that I can run between now and then, but worst case scenario if I can't it will still be okay, right? I've done a bunch of 5 mile runs, including a few over 6 miles. This is on of those races that I have always wanted to do and I have been looking forward to it since the summer when a bunch of us decided to sign up together. My only goal was to finish under 1 hour which I was on course with doing during my last training run (5 miles in 56:24).
Ouch! You'll be fine. I barely ran in the 2 weeks before my half last weekend due to injury, and I did better than I was expecting. Keep icing it, maybe do some cross training if you're up to it, and you'll be fine!
This is giving me hope for my bruised heel and the half I have next Saturday
OP, I personally think you'll be fine even with no runs during that time. You may actually surprise yourself with timing!

Good luck! I thought I might have a stress fracture in my foot, but the x-ray didn't show anything. I took it easy the last 2 weeks (I ran two easy ~3 milers), popped 4 Advil before the race (per my doctors suggestion), and was fine. I was definitely sore afterwards, but I made it though. I hope you're feeling better before next Saturday!
Thank you! Glad your race went well and that you were feeling pretty good after!

Thanks everyone. I wrapped it on and off yesterday as well as iced it and its feeling much better today. I think what freaked me out the most was when I woke up yesterday morning and the weird elastic band/pressure feeling I had. I am so excited about the turkey chase!

ETA: Obviously everyone is different. I'm not advocating pushing yourself if you're truly injured. Just listen to your body. I was fully prepared to pull out mid-race if things felt off.
To your edit: No worries, I knew what you meant and of course would do what feels right to me. I do know there are some crazies out there though lol.
