I got my 5-year-old niece a Bitty Baby last year for her birthday - which has been awesome because now I've been able to get her clothes and tea parties at the AG store for other holidays and she's thrilled (and so is SIL, because Aunt Circa buys all that stuff and she doesn't get nagged.)
Her brother's 5th birthday is this month. I want to get him something as "good." Any ideas? I'm really careful about either getting them things they can share or being fair with everything I get them individually, because they're so close in age.

IMO you really can't go wrong with superheros. The Hulk, Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Ironman, Thor, Cptn America, and X-Men... all in the stores now because of movies. Also, there's always pirates, WWF wrestlers, and football guys. Observe if he has a certain superhero he likes and go shopping.
Thanks! It seems like boys toys end up being cheaper than girls stuff a lot of the time. Like, to get him a gift on the same scale, I'd have to buy a shit ton of Superman stuff, and that would seem unfair to niece, because she got one doll and he got a dozen. But to get him one action figure would probably be unfair IRL, because it cost $15 and AG are $$$.
I was hoping there was some hot - somewhat spendy - toy for 5-year-old boys that would solve the entire problem.

In our house, tools are.all the rage. From tool boxes to benches and play or fake power tools. Dh has now started our 5 yr olds real tool collection. He has a hammer, square, level and wrench so far, gotten at diff times and taught so they are special. Not that tools are only for boys, but dolls don't have to be for girls either for that matter. Whole diff discussion.
I opened this thread and was all, "I remember my American Girl! I loved her! I wonder if they came out with new stuff for her." and went to the website.
Where the fuck is Felicity? Did they get rid of her? My sister has Samantha and I don't see her either. AG is doing me some serious wrongs right now.
They did get rid of Samantha. She's the one I always wanted. I was in the store a few weeks ago with my mom and she was all "I feel so bad for little girls who can't afford an AG" and I was like - "Mom, I wanted one so badly and you wouldn't buy it because it was so expensive." And she was like "Really..." and just wandered off.
jonah's almost six and his fifth birthday was when he went all electronics/computer crazy. how about a leapster/leap pad system? then you can add accessories (like the camera or the charger) or more software (games run about $25 each) or even apps. jonah LOVES his leapster explorer.
They both have Leapsters and love them. I got them some accessories for Christmas, but I could see if there were a few games he wants - that sister might not be into. Good idea!
