I have been feeling run down lately so I made an appt with a GP in the area.
They asked me if I was sick, and I said no, just run down and want a check up. Is that normal? Adults get check ups..right?
Now I'm nervous..it's tomorrow morning. Is she just going to look in my eyes, ears, nose? Take blood? I just want to make sure everything is good. I would kind of like to know if I am lacking any specific vitamin or anything that would be causing me to feel so run down.
I have never had an adult well-check. Should I be asking about anything in particular?

We got well checks when we moved to establish a relationship with a gp for our HMO. She asked us questions and took blood. I think she probably listened to my chest and maybe looked in my ears. I think the questions/other stuff in your post are great. You will be fine!

They should do (or order depending on the site, your insurance, whatever) basic labs. Height and weight, listen to heart and lungs. And they should ask lots and lots of questions.
Mine also feels me up. Some primary docs will do a pap, but they will probably ask you to make sure you routinely get your lady bits checked.
Sure, adults have check ups. They will take your medical history and ask if you have specific concerns. Then the blood pressure, temp, etc. They will probably also take blood for a cbc which should address your concern about vitamins and whatnot.
I don't think most adults go yearly but yes, they should get regular check ups more often. I always do one if I go to a new doctor. Even then, I had one doc kind of surprised. Mine have usually included bloodwork, too.
DH and I go at least yearly because we need rx refills and monitoring bloodwork, but yea, it's not out of the ordinary to go if not. They will just do a check over and probably a general bloodwork panel to get an overall profile of your health. They should be able to check Vit D, iron, and thyroid levels, etc, to see if any of those are out of whack and making you feel sluggish.

I have them now because I can't get prescriptions refilled without it. They generally check weight, blood pressure, do blood work, ask generally how you're feeling. I don't think it's unusual. Last time I was run down it turned out I was a bit anemic, so I am careful to eat more leafy greens now and have been able to avoid a supplement so far.
I get a yearly physical. They measure my neig, weight, check my BMI. They run labs (cholesterol, etc), ask lifestyle questions, and she used to do my pap but when I got pregnant I switched that to my OB.
Thanks ladies. I must be feeling rundown and forgetful. I just called to see if the appt was 9:15 or 9:30 and apparently it was yesterday. Awesome. I rescheduled for 2 weeks from now...

That screams thyroid to me. Before i got mine under control it was like being in a fog. I seriously napped in my office -- and they was way before I had kids.

Hmm...putting that on my list of questions/concerns to go over.

Same here! My first thought reading your op is maybe thyroid...glad you're going in, it's ok to be tired especially since your days are long but to feel super run down actually isn't the norm. I learned that when they figured out my thyroid issue. It also made me spacey. I have been on meds for years and do go for a grown up well check once or twice per year to make sure my meds don't need to be adjusted etc. Hope your appt goes well ...in two weeks
I do yearly too. That's how they found out I had hypothyroidism.
I'm surprised they caught it. My PCP sent me to an endo and the endo told me my levels were a little under the norm and I was put on 25 mcg of Synthroid for it.
Pap, blood work, check out my body for moles, ask how I'm feeling, the usual.

Def ask to have it checked.
Check out your body for moles. As in get naked?? And suddenly I am 3 years old again and don't want to go.

I was in a paper gown for my pap. She checked my moles to make sure they looked normal- shape & color & such

Omg you're too funny! Just go to the doctor lol!!
Brought to you by the lady who had to ask the OB last week about a pregnancy hemorrhoid that never went away (DS is 20 months) and screeched, "but don't look AT it". Haha hopefully my humiliation has made you feel better

Yep. We are one in the same. I would have been like I'm just going to talk about it. There will be NO looking at it.
