We need new window treatments for windows (not floor-to-ceiling) that slide open horizontally. There are currently dated vertical blinds on them that have all but fallen apart anyway. I'm not a huge fan of vertical blinds in general but it appears to be my only option with these windows (sorry, no pics handy). Are there other options out there for sliding windows and/or are there vertical blinds out there that you really like? I need some inspiration and so far hitting the usual sites isn't helping. Thanks!
Can you leave the blinds and hang drapes over them. Our verticals are ugly too but I am poor, it is a big window and the builder included them. When the blinds are open the drapes cover them. When I want to block sun I pull the blinds and then the curtains. They are coming down in the spring in favor of some custom wood ones in the spring. Either jcp or the local design center.

I could do them for one set of windows. The other one has blinds that are literally falling apart so I have to replace them. But this is a good idea to consider, thank you!
We have a slider to the backyard and just put up curtains over it. We can close them to block out the light or open when we want to let it in. (I also hate vertical blinds.)
In my last house I had a sliding glass door and we used sheer curtains. I got a double curtain rod and hung the sheers on the back rod and framed the door with solid drapes that hung on the front rod.
We have all sliding windows. Up front we have horizontal blinds with sheer curtains over them. We just pull up the blinds to open/close the windows. In the bedrooms we just have heavier curtains. IKEA is my favorite for curtains.

I too have sliding windows in lieu of double hung or casements, as do most of my neighbors. I'm using the crappy vertical blinds left here by the prior owner, until I can decide what I want to use as replacements. I've hung drapes over them to soften the look and only close the verticals at night for privacy.
From what I can see, my neighbors are using any and all type of window coverings. Some have horizontal blinds, others have shades (cellular and roller) and others are using verticals. I don't think there's a 'perfect' window covering for these types of windows, as I found even the verticals are problematic, as they stack on one side and my windows slide open on both sides.
