Do you do this? We usually do. Well, DH does it because I like it. I'm going to give him a break this year and maybe skip the roof. Would lights look weird just on the bushes and maybe around the door?

Yes my dh is obsessed, it is his favorite thing ever. We have lots of lights, deer, musical tree, massive wreath lol. I think it's fine to just do bushes and the door. I love all my neighbors to do lights whether a little or a lot.
We are going to do the columns on the front porch, the lower level roofline (not the 2nd story roofline, too dangerous), and some bushes/trees, I think.

We usually do net lights on our bushes, lights on the roof line, and lit candy canes up the sidewalk. The kids love it.
I think we're going to skip it this year though. We usually put the lights up in mid November (to beat the snow and cold) and can't get them down until at least March. It was even later last year because it was so freaking cold and everything was frozen (I promise, all of our neighbors had theirs up too - we weren't the only tacky house). I was so tired of seeing them that I don't even want to put them up again. We already have a lot of ice and snow. Ick. I'm a total scrooge this year.

DD is so excited for Christmas lights. She has been wanting to see them since Halloween was over.
We do plan to put some up this year. DH might work on it this weekend depending on the weather. We live in a ranch house and did put lights on the roof last year. I don't think you need lights on the roof though.
We usually just put a wreath on the door and a little tree on the porch. Last year, when DS1 was 3, he asked why everyone else had lights and we didn't. I guess we'll put a few up this year! Probably just around our single pillar & maybe something along the sidewalk. I guess I should figure that out!
Our decorrating isnt complete until our outdoor lights are hung. Ironically, its really the only decorating i do....i put the lights on our tree and on our house. We have a ranch, so its not as tough to do the roof line except that it has a peak in 2 places that cant reach. So i usually do the big front window, the front bushes and do something along the walkway. I also line our deck so that those across our pond see some decor too!
We do. I think it would be fine if you don't do the roof. I'm hoping we get ours up this weekend. It's supposed to be in the 50s tomorrow but rain. Hope we get a break to get them out.
We've never done the roof because I don't want my H up there. But of course he'd go up there willingly because he loves scaring the shit out of me.
We line our driveway with lights, decorate the mailbox area, wrap the porch columns and put lights on the bushes out front. H also wants to get something for the front yard (deer, sleigh, something like that).
I also hang snowflakes in the windows (from the inside). I wanted to do single lights but it was too much hassle turning them on and off each day.
I am LOL a little at all of the "roof is dangerous" posts. Not that it isn't, but H worked in construction (in the field) when we first got married. Our 6/12 roof is probably one of the least dangerous places he has climbed.
I'm in charge of all light installation at our house and I love it! I'm pretty persnickety about it. I plan to put them up tomorrow while the weather is okay but not turn them on until after Thanksgiving.

kill.
Lol. Mine climbs 80 ft. Silos on the regular. He thinks my standard ranch house roof is a practice jog in the park. He loves lights so we have plenty but their still mainly on trees and bushes because he likes it best.

That's all well and good but we know 2 people with traumatic brain injuries from ladder falls while hanging Christmas lights. The risk for Christmas lights is not worth it when we're dealing with a steep roof, giant trees, landscaping and hardscaping preventing easy, safe access to that part of the roof.
We put lights in the bushes and in a pine tree in the yard, then wrap the columns of our porch with them. We don't do the roof.
I just bought two giant (like 7 feet tall) light up candy canes that I plan to stick in the ground on either side of the sidewalk leading up to our porch. Seems like a super easy way to add some punch.
Yes I love outdoor lights! I have hired someone to hang them the last 3-4 years, and I'll hire someone new this year. I tend to go all out on holidays because I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!!!

I love Christmas lights! I make DH do them though. We usually have lights hung from the roof but we live in a single story home. We also wrap them around the bushes out front. I'd like to wrap them around the pillar on our front porch this year, too.
My dad always did something amazing, so it’s been a slight let-down to me that my H isn’t into it (he likes them but isn’t into putting any up at our house), but since I’m not about to run around outside doing them, I keep my mouth shut. I put candles in the windows that are street-facing.
DH isn't into it at all so we don't hang any, not even in the windows.
He works as a retail manager so over the years he's become a but if a grinch about Christmas in regards to music, decor, shopping, etc. but he loves the actual day itself. And presents.
We do, but only on the roof (we have a ranch). I wish DH was more into it, but he's not, and I don't want to do it, so I try not to complain about it too much. I do a ton of decorating inside to make up for it.
We have a big front porch with pillars so we put garland and lights around the pillars and railing and around the door and line the roof of the porch. We also put them on some of our bushes. We don't line the whole roof or anything. It is too steep on the second floor and just too much work.
