Whenever we go to Chicago, the parking is usually $50+ per night if you want the hotel to valet park it for you and not much cheaper if you park it yourself in a public deck. It is insane. I totally feel your pain. It's an extra 100 bucks just to do a short getaway there to park the damn car.

I think it depends on the location... NYC or San Francisco, I would totally expect to pay a ton for parking. FL, not so much. I do think charging for wifi is RIDICULOUS.
Haha, that's what I meant! You can get that for a hotel in NYC! Figured FL would be less.
H was in Gainesville a few weeks back and paid $175 for a freakin' red roof inn. Wtf. Omg. Lol.
Guys.
Like anything in life it's supply and demand.
Was it during a big game? Then it gets jacked up.
Sometimes my hotel goes for $400 a night.
I've also had large groups in at $99 a night.
It all depends on the pressure from the city and the occupancy of the hotel. My sales team has 7 people on it. There is a science to selling hotel rooms. Sounds silly. But there is.

I read an article recently that said hotels are going the airline route - low room rates, because that's how people price shop, and then add-on fees for everything else.

I mean seriously, what the fuck is a resort fee?
Many resorts have to actually pay extra for the spa/pool/cabanas to run. This is where this fee goes to.

Isn't this part of...like...running a business?
Like you wouldn't charge a guest for a "drapery dusting" or "grout cleaning" fee simply because they're part of the hotel?
And guests pay A LOT sometimes for those features, like cabana rentals.
It makes it sound like a bullshit fee by having a separate line item. Why not roll it into the room rate?

I will say that living near Chicago and visiting frequently has made me pleasantly surprised at the parking costs in other cities. I am used to paying $30+ to park anywhere in Chicago, even just daytime parking in a public garage there if we go for the day.
The first time we visited STL, we were asking around about places to eat downtown. We were given a recommendation and then asked about parking. The hotel concierge said, "Oh, there is a paid parking lot just down the block from the restaurant." So we asked, "About how much does it run? $20 or $30?" The concierge laughed at us and said 4 bucks. LOL. It was AMAZING!

last time i stayed in SF (i think meridian?) it was $55 overnight for parking.
I was just coming in here to say that you guys have never parked in San Fran. Also the last time I paid to park there was also at Le Meridian! Lol!
