How is the sun porch tree? We are considering a tree this year, but due to cats the tree will need to stay in the sun room. Ours is unheated, but has lovely double doors to the family room so we would have a great view.
It's a fake tree, but we love it. We can see it from our den and it's in front of windows.
We are going fake too. I was just worried about the cold. Is your room heated?
We switch every year. I like the multi with all the crazy family ornaments. My h likes the white fancy ornaments. It's his year and I sulk each time it is lol.

Multi colored lights. The first year my mom did a beautiful white light tree with my gradmother's Waterford ornament collection, red bows, and coordinating ornaments I got mad and cried. I was like 15, lol.
This. But since the dream has not yet been realized, we do white lights with family ornaments.
Ditto.
@andycohen's post reminded me of what a psycho I am about lights. I hate visible wires, so I tightly wrap each branch and then double back. It takes so many hours and strands of lights (I think last year S calculated that there were something like 2500 bulbs on our tree), and after I'm covered in pine pitch and scratches. Clark Griswold would be proud.
I used to do that too! And then I moved in with Charles and he wanted to MURDER me when it was time to take the tree out. I'm not allowed anymore.

I also once cried because DH and I got into a fight about whether or not it was acceptable to buy a pumpkin from the grocery store vs going to the real patch. This was within the last 7 years. "It's not Halloween if it comes from the grocery store! It's just cheap squash!".
We are going to use white lights this year and I also use a big spool of ribbon. I lightly wrap the tree and then tuck the spool in the back so can just roll it up for the next year, it looks pretty. I'm thinking of getting L a little tree with colored lights for her room this year.
Prelit trees make me want to stab you guys. Get a real tree!
I grew up with real trees, which I planned to continue. When we bought this house, we went looking for a real tree the first year, and it was so difficult. There is literally one place in the house for the tree, but it has to be really thin to fit between the fireplace and dining room table. We decided that instead of attempting to find a thin tree each year, and squishing it up against the wall, we would get a fake tree. I love real trees, but I have no interest in going on that "hunt" again!

Ha, I remember this from last year's light talk. Our rule is if I put them on, I have to take them off.
I tried to be all breezy and just throw a few loose strands on one year, but every time I looked at the tree, it made me twitchy.
