I sit on the side of no one should be using rape except when talking about actual rape. I had a friend that used the word a lot and I found it gross and offensive.

I know her. She is infatuated with him and is crazy excited about being in his presence. She thought it was funny or cute.
I think when people use the word in that way they're desensitizing themselves and others to the word and its subject matter. People would've understood her excitement and infatuation if she said something without saying rape. It was unnecessary and poor taste.
She just added more WTF to this status post. She posted a picture of herself with her husband at this concert.
What does that even mean in this context? Justin Timberlake sings and dances I thought. lol Bizarre as well as gross.
To me, it looks like she is saying that she is going to rape JT. I think she means that she wants his bosy & would maul him if she got the chance. It's...weird.

But, it's "rape." So you really can't SAAAAAAAAY THAT.
So no lighthearted offhand references to violent, permanently life-altering assaults? that rule shouldnt be this hard to follow.
While I agree it's a stupid and offensive thing to say, let's not pretend we don't desensitize violent and life-altering assaults in our speech all the time. How often do we say/ hear, "I'm gonna kill/pummel/mame him?"

It's a gross figure of speech sure... But it's we say we are going to " throat bunch" or " neck stab" people all the time.
While I agree using sexual assault as a " cute" figure of speech is pretty offensive, I also agree with the old saying " I disagree with your opinion, but would for for your right to say it" ( errr something )
