What's so special about the Dr. Dre Beats headphone?

Are they just fancy wireless headphones? Are they compatible with all electronic devices such as phones, the iPod touch, iPads, etc?

Anyone have these?

The brand. I researched headpgones for dh's father's day gift and they were no where to be found on anybody's recommended lists.

Ditto for HS. All the "cool" kids at DDs school have Beats. Fortunately, she doesn't care for the look of them and is content with the $20 SkullCandy earbuds I bought her last year.

They are right up there with coach bags and Tiffany bracelets for me because they have been knocked off so much. I actually have heartbeats (the in ear headphones by Dr. Dre) but I bought them years ago and I wouldn't wear them if they were obvious. If you want noise canceling headphones Bose are higher quality, around the same price, and not as . . .

Nothing, other than the brand. There are several other brands that cost less and sound better.

My dh and his friend are hugely into music (collecting records, going to shows, listening to music all day long, making music) and they say it's just a trendy brand name. They don't think they sound very good compared to how much they cost (too much bass, apparently).
