Guiliani: White Police Wouldn't Be There If You Weren't Kill

Okay, then.  He and Michael Eric Dyson had a heated exchange on MSNBC today.

It went down on Meet The Press Sunday.



During a panel discussion on diverse police forces and the unrest in Ferguson, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani had a message for black people: Stop the violence.



Except he actually didn’t say that. He said this:



The white police officers won’t be there if you weren’t killing each other 70 to 75 percent of the time.



Giuliani was directing his comments at MSNBC contributor and Georgetown professor Michael Eric Dyson, who was also on Sunday’s panel.



Host Chuck Todd started the discussion by pointing out the “disproportionality of white police forces” in some cities with high black populations.



Todd cited a recent Washington Post analysis of census data. He highlighted certain cities like Compton, El Paso and Detroit as examples where the proportion of white police officers was much higher than the proportion of the white population.



“How do you make a police force that looks like the community they serve?” Todd asked Giuliani.



Giuliani immediately praised the work New York City had done in regards to this issue, but then took the defensive:



I find it very disappointing that you’re not discussing the fact that 93 percent of blacks in America are killed by other blacks.



Giuliani went on to call the Michael Brown shooting at the hands of Darren Wilson, a “significant exception.”



Dyson said he thought Giuliani was making a “false equivalency.” “Black people who kill black people go to jail,” Dyson responded.



And then a pretty intense back and forth ensued.



To presumably describe black people, Giuliani repeatedly used “you” and “your people” when talking to Dyson.



“What about the poor black child that is killed by another black child?” Giuliani asked Dyson. “Why aren’t you protesting that?”



“Those people go to jail,” Dyson countered. “I do protest it. I am a minister. They go to jail. Why don’t you talk about the way in which white policeman undercut the ability for Americans to live?”



Todd tried to keep the two from continuing, but the ‘conversation’ continued.



Giuliani next asked Dyson why he didn’t “cut down” black violence. For real.



“Why don’t you cut it down so so many white police officers won’t have to be in black areas?”



“The white police officers won’t be there if you weren’t killing each other 70 to 75 percent of the time.”



Dyson called Giuliani’s attitudes “defensive mechanism of white supremacy at work…”

After looking at the video, I am seething at Guiliani. He started off decently saying the NYPD has tried to be racially diverse, and then it went downhill from there.

I have no idea.  This is like when John McCain really started to lose it.  I was like "huh.  I thought he was a war hero who leaned fiscal conservative.  Who the fuck is this guy?"  I still haven't figured that one out.
