We are watching IL's yorkie while they are away for a week. He is 3 lbs, 5 1/2 years old, and she never house trained him so I've been changing diapers and cleaning up crap in the dining room for 2 days now. He is a good dog otherwise, but seriously.

Um why didn't they house train it? Emma was trained in two days. I'd be tempted to try to train it but I understand it's not your job to that but I know diapers has to be hard too though
She claimed he was impossible to train and she just gave up. They have had hoards of other dogs and they were all fine (they also gave an Airedale that is 1 and trained fine). Who knows. Lol
Supposedly, Yorkies are notorious for being terrible to train. However, I don't know that I believe it. My previous dog was a Yorkie who came to us first as a foster, then we adopted her. We quickly learned she was never trained. The deceased owner's daughter at first said, "She's old, she may have accidents," but it's not an accident when it happens every time. We did the best we could in training her, but since she was old, it was difficult to train her.
Our new dog is a Yorkie, and he is trained. His previous owner did a fantastic job with him. He's only had one accident in the house, and that was the first night (we were a weird place for him after animal jail!). He has shown me it is completely possible to train them.
Ok, that is not dog sitting. A professional will tell you that dog sitting doesn't cover what you're doing.
lol Trust me, she's already heard all about it from me. I've already had to wash the diaper cover twice in 2 days and half of the time when I do let him out, he'll pee on the patio and sit in it so he smells like pee, too. I tell MIL this and she said "I don't know what to tell you, I don't have that problem". Yeah right! lol
I also don't believe the thing about yorkies being impossible to train. If that was true they probably wouldn't be one of the most popular dogs ever to own.

I had a yorkie, and he was difficult to train, but not impossible. He was finally house trained at a year. I think the problem was, he was so small and his puppy pee spots were so tiny that if I didn't see it happen, I never knew it was there to clean up. So there was lingering pee smells that made him think it was okay to keep going inside. After a deep cleaning, and better being more dilagent with watching him, he got there.
That blows! But I believe her. The best my dog has ever gotten is paper (pee pad) trained until we finally got a house where a doggie door was possible. We tried a solid 2yrs to no avail & my DH had tons of experience with dogs. Our breed also is notorious for being very difficult to train. It's a big part of why I never leave!

OK, I'm pretty sure that a dog that never learns to pee outside ever is a reversal in evolution. Ew, I would never agree to watch that dog again, even if my ILs were great people. They would get a, sorry, only when he's house trained. response.
I potty trained my human nephew when he stayed with us for 4 days b/c I wasn't going to do diapers for a 4 year old, so I'm a potty training snob. Then again, it would probably take longer than 4 days to get a dog potty trained - a 4 year old has got to be smarter, right?
I always say that I am the one that is trained and the dogs are only mostly housetrained. I feel like they will never be 100% housetrained like our old (bigger) dogs were, so I spend a lot of time herding them outside and waiting for them, so they don't have a chance to go inside.
It was easier when we only had the two that we got when they were young. We had them pretty well trained, but adding in non trained dogs that were a couple of years old threw everything off.
