We are supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow on Wednesday. I'll be working a 7-7 shift that day and if my hospital calls a code yellow, I will not be allowed to leave. We are supposed to be spending Thanksgiving with my Uncle who lives in Pennsylvania this year. This is the first year in 6 years we have been able to travel for the holidays, and now we might not get to go. Thanksgiving is our favorite holiday too!
H is not at all happy either because he has a cold (AKA..EBOLA because you know, he's a dude.) and will have to be out plowing. So looks like we may be spending Thanksgiving apart this year. FUUUUUUUCK.

The hospital goes into partial lockdown mode so people are allowed to come in, but no one can go out until it is lifted.
I don't know that they would call it for 2-4 inches. This is my first winter here and I've heard that they are kind of code happy. I told H to just pick me up in his work truck with the plow on it, but they probably wouldn't let me go. Apparently they set up cots and ask you to keep toiletries and linens and stuff in your car in case you need to stay.

Oh, okay. I grew up in the DC area and while they are a little crazy when it comes to snow, I don't think they'd call it for that little amount. From what I understand it might even miss you. Fingers crossed!

God I hope so. I am just not ready for snow. I mean, tomorrow it's going to be 70 degrees! I have to pull my flip-flops out again. This weather needs a heavy dose of Lithium.
If it helps, they didn't make us stay at my hospital at all last winter when we had nasty ice storms and a 100+ car pileup on the highway right next to us.
Hopefully your administration is just paranoid because of how icky last winter was in the South/SE, so they want you to be prepared, but they won't call it for a couple inches.

The gal who was telling me all this said she gets stuck there every winter. She said last year they called it for 5 inches. Like, Why? I feel like the East coast has turned into a giant pussy because of the few bad storms we've had in the last few years.

I'm north of D.C.
Ah, that makes sense. I lived in Old Town Alexandria for 3 years and it snowed every winter. And every winter it was a brand new "surprise". People were unprepared and freaked out each time. Dudes! This happens every year!

DC metro has perfected the snow panic over many years. Makes sure you have your bread, milk, water, and TP. The local media trying to one up each other on panic drama reporting. Winter comes every year, must panic like its never happened before and it's the worst thing to ever happen. My mum still rolls her eyes at a few of my "snow days" in 1st and 2nd grade. They cancelled the night before school, there was no snow in the morning. This happened multiple times.
At our hospital here the only time in the last 10 yrs that a code yellow was called was when there was a tour bus crash with 56 people on it. 20+ critical.
But they don't call code yellows because of weather up here though, we are used to it being up north and all.
