Ha! She just texted me back saying she doesn't think we need the pumpkin cake too. lol Honestly, she is right but I prefer the cake, it is not as pumpkin rich.
If you are the host why is she telling you what to serve? I'd go ahead and make it.
I recently had this issue with my dad. I told him I would make creamed corn and bring it. He said he already bought the ingredients, so I didn't need to. But his creamed corn is canned and mixed with saltines and GROSS.
I've never made creamed corn, can you share your recipe?
Make the cake! People can eat more than one type of dessert.
My dad always brings the desserts for Thanksgiving, but he doesn't bring pumpkin pie and that's my H's must-have Thanksgiving item. So we always make and bring one (in addition to a salad for dinner) and then the two of us each eat a slice along with a slice of the other desserts, then we bring the rest home. It works for us and keeps my H happy.
Sorry to post and run earlier. Yes, I am hosting. I was going to ask her to bring wine, but she already placed the orders for the pies. So, I am going to buy and apple pie at Wegmans (they are incredible) and make the Gooey Butter cake.
It is the Paula Deen Recipe and is amazing. I am generally not a pumpkin pie fan, but I love this dessert and have heard the same from others. Served with whipped cream and it is fantastic.
Word. We'll have 11 (depending on how the weather shakes out, could be just DH and myself) and we'll have pumpkin pie, salted caramel apple pie bars, spice cookies, and nutella fudge. Possibly more bc my MIL loves to just show up with extra dessert.
Can you share the salted caramel apple pie bar recipe? Yum!
Here's the recipe: sallysbakingaddiction.com/2014/07/03/salted-caramel-apple-pie-bars/ The only big change I make is that I double the time for cooking the dough in the initial baking process bc I found that when I followed the recipe exactly it wasn't even close to being cooked through. But the flavors are great and the sauce is soooo good.
I'd make the cake, survey the dessert situation once you see her pies and then probably hide it to have it for breakfast the next day. Cause that sounds like a heavenly breakfast!
