I'm never here this early! 3 hours! Flight board in another 30 mins. Meanwhile, I'm already hating ppl.
Personal space ppl! I know there are limited outlets, but you done have to take up half the counter with yourself. I didn't have to move the phone at all for this pic
Why must people stand on top of you when trying to board too, ugh. My airport random is that I hate DTW's terminal. It is so flipping FAR and where we usually end up, there is no tram. So I am packing my coat and boots in checked luggage so I don't have to carry/wear that shit 5 miles in the airport terminal and end up a sweaty mess and sick going from 70 degrees to 20 and lake effect snow Thursday. I've been spoiled by smaller, regional airports. Hell, we get free bags, so.... I will put that shit in my free suitcase. Watch them loose my effing bags.
Airports bring out the best in personal space stories. I want to take a redeye flight where the guy next to me kept falling asleep and his arms, which were crossed, Woodfall open and his hands ended up on my leg. Pick it up, move it, repeat. It was a long flight.
DH and I did decide that if we ever take our dog on an airplane trip again, we will make up stickers that say "Miso's Fan Club" for all the little kids who wanted to come up and say hi

This baffles me when you're in line anywhere.
If you, your belongings, or your breath are touching me gtfo. You'll be the same number in line no matter how close you get!
seriously!
We will all be helped. And, dude, in the jetway the plane will not be leaving without you.
Meanwhile, I wish I could take a pic of the whole terminal right now. I'm too shy to be that obvious. But the terminal us really starting to back up. If this power outage lasts much longer, there may be no choice but to abandon all personal space.
I once had a flight where the mom of a little 4 year old was too busy having a panic attack to even think about how said 4 year old is way too little to sit still for a 5 hour flight. The mom brought zero things to keep the kid busy, which turned into the child sitting in my lap coloring in my work binder the whole flight. That flight sucked.
35 mins later, they have confirmed that the power is out, the jetways can't run, and the computers are down. Flights "might" be delayed. Really?! Like my scheduled to depart in 8 minutes.
Oh wait, while I was typing, they just announced there are "glimmers of power."
Our flights on Saturday reminded me of exactly why I'm really happy H got a vasectomy after DS 2 was born. The rows around us were full of families flying with toddler lap children, and OMG I felt so sorry for some of the parents. One kid puked all over his mom mid-flight when we were going through turbulence, another two kept trying to make a break for it down the aisle (also while going through turbulence), and a third just screamed and cried inconsoleably for almost an hour. Flying with toddlers is such pure hell.
They have brought snacks and sodas to us. This is crazy
BWI?? Oh man!
yup. It's bad. Flights are being cancelled like dominoes. And now I appreciate the expensive flight bc they put me on the next one that will go out. Everyone else is being told nothing til Thursday.

When is your flight scheduled - the new one they put you on? SO SORRY! What a nightmare.
LoveTrains - 4pm. I'm now kicking myself bc there was a 12:00 I didn't take it bc it was 11:45 and panic told me it wouldn't work. Of course, it's going out (at 2pm). The lady on the phone had no idea what was happening. *sigh* I guess it wasn't the next flight.
Eta: I considered trying to get back on the (now) 2pm. But my need for beer and food was greater than my desire to wait in line in person or on the phone. Apparently, you get person directly when you call back the number they text you, but that only works once. The second time or kept saying too late, call the normal number.

This is where full-fare tickets, first class tickets, or super airline status comes in handy... It's saved my butt a few times, too.
Yikes! Glad my brother chose to come down tomorrow instead of today! He's flying out of BWI. We're flying into DCA tomorrow. Very fast business trip so hopefully there won't be any delays.
LoveTrains - Yes! Was just popping in to update. I have made it to the great state of TN. 2 hours left to drive (UGH!). Stopped for dinner.
To the surprise of no one, our bags are MIA. And I've gotten over confident lately. Don't even have a toothbrush on me. But I spoke with the neighbors who are taking care of my dad this evening and they are going to round one up. I thing I can deal with most everything else.
rubytue it sounds like you are lucky to have made it out, all the news stations around here are basically predicting the apocalypse for those that are traveling today (& more so tomorrow).
Channel 7 has a live "Winter Weather Advisory Chat" on facebook this afternoon. WTF.
Ugh, I got to the airport 3 hours early on Sunday and then my flight was delayed by over an hour so I spent over 4 hours there. I did a lot of walking up and down the terminal to try and kill time. At least there were football games on to keep me occupied. Apparently, I also look like the person who will watch strangers electronics while they charge - I was propositioned by several to do that while charging my own phone. One down side of traveling solo and getting to the airport early.
My bag has been found! It got into Nashville around midnight. The currier called me this morning and said "I have a lot of bags and you are a long way from the airport, but its coming." yay!!
