If one kitty is really social/playful they could fast track how soon they become friendlier.
Well, here's the thing. Fatty is scared of his own shadow. Thunderstorms. Loud noises. Crowds. Everything.
Velociraptor is crazy social and playful. He is scared of nothing. But he HATES other cats (besides Fatty). If you own a cat and come to our house, there is an 80 percent chance Velociraptor will hiss at you because you smell like the enemy. He has to dominate EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE. We all must know he is king.

I want all the kitties. H is slightly allergic, but could live with one. MIL and SIL are very allergic though, so getting one is like "Hey never come over again."

And the problem is....?
I actually love my MIL and SIL, and they don't live far, so they visit regularly. It would be no question if I didn't like them
the good news is, he looks well fed. I'd do a TNR and build a shelter if he doesn't warm up to you. I tried to convince DH to build a shelter in our yard but I've never seen a stray cat so we'd just end up with a racoon in it or something.

H reached out to the listserv. Someone asked if we have been feeding the cat and offered some advice related to that.
H said: "We haven't been, as we weren't sure if we wanted to encourage him/her to become "ours" or not, though the more I'm reading about it the more I'm considering whether we should."
I would like to hear a lot more about what's going on on either side of the glass in that picture.
Friends to be? Mortal enemies? Mere curiosity?
LOL. Well, if you can't tell from the outline of the reflection, Fatty is significantly bigger that Outdoor Kitty.
But we learned Kitty was there because Fatty was pawing at the glass. I was surprised, honestly. If Fatty moves his tail too fast, he scares himself. I would've expected him to run away. But nope, he was just pawing at the glass over and over. Kitty just sat there. Didn't move until H opened the door and then took off.
I think Fatty and Kitty could be friends if Kitty didn't try to play too much. It's Velociraptor I'm worried about. There is about an 80 percent chance that he'd spite pee on all our stuff if we ever made Kitty and indoor cat.

keep in mind there's a decent chance that kitty couldn't really transition to indoor life successfully if (s)he hasn't lived inside before. The closest we ever got with some of our adopt-a-strays was that they'd come in for regular visits and sit next to us on the couch within eyeshot of the door. We were never permitted to pick them up and they got squirrelly if they felt confined. Like they never entered the stairwell or a hallway. And that's after years. I remember the first time Brutus sat on my lap - it was a big deal and I think he'd been around for several years at that point.

You are ruining my fantasy of three cats!!!
But yeah, the plan for now is just an outdoor shelter and to see how it goes.

I need a back yard with a sliding door so I can "discover stray kitties" while H is at work. Then I'll be all like, "but the kitteh will DIE!!! Do you want this sweet face (purrr purrr) to DIE?!?!? But you're a VEGAN!!!!" And then he'll let me keep it.
A similar tactic worked on my dad when we brought home Leroy Brown. As far as my dad knew, we found him on the side of a major highway and he was at risk of becoming road kill. In reality he was a barn kitten that we got from my friend's house . Happy to report he's still alive and well 17 or so years later!
If H ever leaves me, I am going full-on cat decor. I just consider it a way to make sure any potential second husbands know what they're getting into.
When I had a profile up on a dating site recently I said any guy who ever wanted to run a cat sanctuary should contact me so we could get married ASAP.
I thought of you on Sunday. I made waffles and bacon and a homemade berry syrup for the waffles. And I thought, "I bet Fuckstick would like to eat breakfast with me today." And then I thought how weird this might make me.
Dude. I had waffles for breakfast Saturday. I would eat the hell out of some bacon and waffles with homemade berry syrup with you. I'm kind of a waffle whore.
You should call the kitty "Waffle.."
Perhaps "Waffle Whore."
Or "Bacon."
Or "Taco."
Also, we made a kitty shelter in our backyard and it was awesome. If you make it with a clear tupperware bin you can see the kitty lounging in their "house," and it is so satisfying--like you really feel like you are helping out with a little life
