In my HCOL area, at least $3K, particularly with the trim.
I think you live close to me and you need to call my guy for any future paint needs.
My guess is $1800.
Ha, I like painting and do it myself, but that was an estimate friends got for two similarly sized rooms. They did have vaulted ceilings though, so that might make a difference too.

I hate painting so much, it is definitely one of those "we pay for painting so we don't have to pay for marriage counseling" things in my house.
I am sure the vaulted ceilings made it more. I paid $3k to get my entire downstairs painted (walls, trim, ceilings) and my steps/upstairs hallway.
$1000? We're getting 3 rooms painted today - powder room, dining room, and ... I don't know what to call the third room. A lot of windows in the bigger rooms, but the house is brand new, so no sanding, trim work, etc. And that's $900. So that's where I get my guess. One less room, but more work.

Okay so the price is $1130. Having never hired any one for this, we just have no idea if that is too high. Sounds like it's within reason considering some of the guesses here. My sense was that is was reasonable, too high for us but not too high for the job.

Honestly I think its probably the prep work that is pricing it so high. You could easily paint a small room with trim for a couple hundred bucks. But the sanding, scraping, spackling, sanding again, etc....that is labor intensive and takes time, and time is money, so $$$$.

I hate how much painting costs!
That is correct! My guess was $1200, btw. DH painted his way through college and the most time is spent in prep. Rolling on paint is easy! Sanding is a total PITA.

Oh, DH hates painting with the fire of a thousand suns, so the deal is I can paint whatever I want as long as he doesn't have to touch so much as a roll of tape. Definitely cuts down on the arguments.
That really is an awesome price, I do have an entryway that would need scaffolding to paint, and I don't like it THAT much, so I may ask you for your painter's info if we ever get around to that!

I agree. I will also add, a GOOD paint job is worth the money. I'd also make sure you have referrals for whomever you do hire. And I agree that you should get at least one more bid.

I know, H really wants to paint himself but it's those spots where we really feel like we need the professional.
jennistarr1 I suppose it depends on how particular you are, and how handy YH is, but I'd say if he wants to do it, he should. Its not like DIY plumbing, where the consequences are severe. The worst case scenario is that its not perfectly smooth, right? I'd give it a try. The painting part will be quite easy given the small size of the rooms.
