I have been instructed to bring a sweet potato dish for Thanksgiving. We are also having regular mashed potatoes. My family loves mashed potatoes.
There will be 10-12 people at my parent's house.
It can't be anything too wild because a few of my relatives are picky eaters. If I had my way I'd make them mashed with maple, and add chopped bacon and candied pecans on the top. But it might be TOO WILD, guise.
Preferably savory as opposed to sweet. Can you direct me to awesome recipes? Or should I go simple with salt and pepper and brown sugar?
I do mashed with butter, milk/cream, and a drizzle of honey, although maple syrup would be good too. Salt and pepper as well, of course.
Or would you like a recipe for sweet potato & apple soup? I might be able to find it online, I got it from one of those magazines that comes with the Sunday paper.

My family loves a sweet potato casserole that is mashed with milk/butter/egg. Baked with a brown sugar and pecan crusty topping. I can get you details if you would like.
My MIL makes this "souffle" Sweet Potato Souffle 3 -4 large sweet potatoes, cut into large pieces 1 c. sugar 1 c. milk 3/4 stick of butter (or 2/3 stick if you prefer) 2 eggs 1 t. lemon juice (to preserve color) brown sugar pecans
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bring the sweet potatoes to a boil and cook until fork tender. Cool slightly and remove skins. Add the potatoes to a large mixing bowl and whip with the sugar, milk and butter. Add the eggs and whip. Stir in lemon juice.
Transfer to a grease casserole and top with a mixture of brown sugar and chopped pecans. Bake 1 1/2 hours, until set and browned on top.
It is sweet but omg it's my favorite part of their thanksgiving.
This whole thread made my healthy, sensible choice of a "skinny" breakfast sandwich seem like a bad decision. Luckily I am in the land of diners and my grandma will encourage me to stuff my face.
