This weekend has been awful. It was supposed to be joyous since we got our house in place and leveled, but it has been a shit storm with my cat, Bean. He's had urinary issues before and we thought we had everything worked out( ie food, litter, more play) but he started vomiting, straining early Sunday morning. H noticed at 4 am and for a few minutes we debated on whether to take him because money is very tight right now but we eventually took him. His poor bladder was so full. They pulled 40cc's via cysto. They gave him fluids, muscle relaxers, a different antibiotic, and prednizone. Well, we watched him all day on Sunday and we thought he had pee'd a couple golf ball size pee's, which he may have but at 5:00am this morning, H said he was back to vomiting and straining again. He was laying on his side with his leg up and little droplets of pee were coming out so I knew he was full. I rushed him to the e-vet again and they had to sedated him and run a catheter to relieve the pressure and flush him out. They are keeping him for a couple days to observe and give him lots of tranquilizers and muscle relaxers.
**Just as I was typing this out, the vet called me and said he is doing very well. He's just hanging out and doesn't seem stressed. They have him on some good pain medicine so I'm happy for that. I just miss him and want him home. They are taking great care of him so I'm trying not to worry too much.
Has the vet mentioned surgery? I had a kitty with urinary blockage issues - on the third trip (over several years) they mentioned surgery. Surgery was actually cheaper than having him catheterized, so it may be something to consider for the future.

I hope you get him home soon.
They did mention surgery but I don't know if we could afford it. They said it was more likely due to inflammation due to stress. I don't know what our next course of action will be. Depends on how he does after they take the catheter out

Sorry to hear about your kitty. I just had to take my 15 yr old cat to the vet last weekend for the same thing! They took some tests, gave her some meds, and charged us $354! She was better the next day, so it was worth it- but I had sticker shock when I saw the bill!
