You have a scheduled dr. appointment at 3pm. You arrive on time and wait in the waiting room until 335. Nurse brings you into exam room, checks blood pressure, and says dr will be with you shortly.
How long do you wait before going out and checking to see how long it will be?
I waited 45 min once for a cold before going to find someone. I was pissed because I'm pretty sure doc forgot about me. Now every time I get in, I time it. If they are more than 20 minutes, I'll be wandering out to find someone.
I waited until 4pm (which I thought was generous) but the nurse looked at me like I was crazy. Doc came in @ 420, spent 10 min with me, and I'm already heading home.
The doc was apologetic and genuine. The nurse's reaction is what prompted this post
I once fell asleep in an exam room waiting for a specialist. The doctor totally didn't even know I was there and I ended up waiting an hour for her (normally I had to wait like 10 minutes).
I assumed she got caught in surgery. She felt horrible and I felt dumb.
I think your hour was generous for that appointment.
I will wait a while but my office generally makes it very clear when the doctor is running behind. I also make appointments for after 5 pm during the week and Friday afternoons so I understand that I have to give something up for having appointments that allow me not to miss work.
I've waiting 45 min before....and my OBGYN is sneaky, and put you in the paper skirt, so it is REALLY hard to go out into the hall looking for someone to give you a time estimate.

My ob office was like this and it was frustrating. Towards the end I just brought a book or would surf on my phone while waiting. That nurse is crazy imo. Common courtesy would be to give you a heads up that they haven't forgotten you and the doc is still just running behind.

This is why I hate regular doctors' offices. I'd probably wait 30-45 minutes before checking. Needing to wait for ages is just the norm in my experience.
1 hour past the appointment time (waiting room wait + exam room wait) is my limit. Unless the nurse keeps me appraised of the situation. I once lost my temper with my OB's nurse when I waited 1.5 hours for my 24 week appt with not so much as a by your leave. I missed a major work meeting and really pissed off my boss in the process.
I later found out the the OB was late because she was the only on in their office on call and had taken some extra time with a mother who delivered a stillborn. I still feel like an asshole about it. I would have kept my mouth shut if they'd just told me that the OB was running way behind...
That's why I make sure I have both my Kindle and my phone with me for entertainment. One time I forgot my devices, and had to wait over an hour in one of those open front gowns for my ob/gyn appointment. That was rough.
My OBGYN? I was always willing to wait for her. She is a solo practitioner and her office is right at the hospital. I KNOW she ran late sometimes because she was literally with a patient who was giving birth. I felt that when my time came, I wanted her to be there ASAP so I didn't complain when she was late because of the same issue.

My obgyn was often late because he had to run up to the hospital side (his office is attached) to help deliver a baby. I figure I am probably going to make other ladies wait, so I was understanding. In fact, I did end up making my friend wait for her appointment when I was in labor with my first lol.
I try to schedule the first appointment of the morning or first of the afternoon as that tends to avoid this problem. As the day goes along, "stuff" happens during an appointment that was not planned and requires more time/attention and appointments can easily be thrown off schedule.

I switched OB's at 30 weeks pregnant partly because I would regularly wait 3-4 hours to be seen at my appointments. I was in nursing school at the time & could only schedule evening appointments. They were typically scheduled at 2 or 3 pm & I never got out of there until 6-6:30 pm.

Woah, that's a long wait. I usually schedule 8-9am appts, but late afternoon was the only thing available this time around. You better believe when I left I scheduled every appt up to my due date to make sure I got the 8ams
