My 18 week appointment is December 22 and I thought that my MW would do the anatomy scan that appointment. Because I have a relative with birth defects, they referred me out for first trimester testing and apparently I have to go back. They made he appointment today - for January 5th.
i am obviously keeping the appointment because it's important, but.. I can pay $85 and go to an ultrasound boutique type place and try to find out gender before Christmas. The only rush is I will get to see my grandparents and tell them in person. And patience isn't really a virtue I hold.

I really am too antsy lol. I'm sure I'm having a boy now, I just want to know either way if my motherly instincts are still off. I thought Baby W was a girl lol.
DH and I did it with DD so we could tell our family in person at Christmas......so I'm no help. Dooooo iiiitttttttt!
If you go through with it take juice and candy just to make sure you can get the shot in case he/she doesn't want to cooperate. The place I went provided candy but still just to be safe

How far along were you? I'll be 18 weeks the Friday before Christmas.

I'd do it if I wanted to know because I could't wait.
The only person who was pumped about DS's sex was my MIL. Everyone else was happy for us, but the whole gender thing didn't matter to anyone but MIL- a baby was exciting enough. If I was banking on the looks on their faces with the reveal, I would have been disappointed.
Due to a high risk pregnancy, I had ultrasounds weekly from week 16 on. I wanted to know the baby's gender. Baby did not cooperate and did not reveal her gender in any of them. I went into labor not knowing that I would have a daughter. An ultrasound does not always show the gender.

I fully realize that it doesn't. I've had 2 anatomy scans already in the past since this is my third child. They do have a guarantee that if they don't see it the first session, they will allow you to come back again for one more try.

It's $85.
I'm not really expecting happy faces or anything. It's just a convenient excuse for my impatience. Plus, post Christmas shopping.

Voice of reason, party of 1.
I would wait. $85 to find out a few weeks earlier isn't worth it to me. But mostly, if you have a family history of birth defects, I wouldnt want to see something abnormal at a place that cannot give medical advise, and have to wait until after the holidays to find out for sure what's going on.

I have one of 75+ (because I'm not going to go through and count every cousin and all their spawn) relatives with issues. Everything looked great at my first round. The MFM doctor I saw said that the birth defects that give me family history cause are not genetic, so he saw no reason to worry. Which is why I was stumped why I was being referred back a second time.

I'm sure it's just a precaution. More of a cover their ass than a concern But if I was you, I still would wait. I can thing of a million other things I would want to spend that money on. I got my eye on an unfinished coffee table that the $85 would almost buy.

Make that party of 2.
ITA. I could come up with a lot of other things to spend that money on since you would only need to wait another few weeks.
Of course this is coming from someone who had to wait (back in the dark ages) until her children were born to find out. ;p

Make it three. It's not worth it to me, although I'm one of the crazies that had the option to find out and chose to wait, so my opinion is probably not helpful, haha.
I'd do it. I was 19w PG when we had our housewarming party and I really wish I could've told people in person what we were having. Sadly my appointment was the Thursday after our party
