The lying liars who lie at the hospital assured me that the prep wouldn't have any lingering effects and I would feel just fine with no GI discomfort once I slept off the anesthesia. I DO NOT FEEL JUST FINE. My body has apparently decided to punish me for being so cruel to it, and I do not like this one bit.
Thank goodness I lucked into timing it so that I have this week off, because being at work today would be terrible.

Boo, I hope you feel better soon!
I am annoyed with drivers in this town. Seriously. I've probably mentioned it before but that double right turn lane I take every day drives me nuts. Why do people turn into the right most lane just to cut over 3 lanes right away? Why not just turn from/into the middle lane to cut over so you're not almost hitting other cars in the process? I just don't get it!!!
estrellita - We have a couple of weird lane situations in our town where people act like total idiots. It drives me bonkers!
To top it off, we also have all sorts of weird traffic things. This town has an obsession with roundabouts and we have what's called a "divergent diamond interchange". It's stupid and confusing! That plus the terrible drivers mean I have close calls almost daily!

I HATE roundabouts. I mean, when done properly I'm sure they're great, but they put them in the weirdest, most pointless places here and they just end up causing more confusion than a four way stop would.
Ugh katespade I hope you feel better soon. I'm glad you are off this week to re-coup!
estrellita the drivers in our town are awful too. I get frightened for my life on many occasions.
My whine is that I'm just so overly exhausted from so much going on and really want to take 3 days off in a row to have a mini "staycation" which I've never done because I don't like to use time off to just stay home but it's sounding more and more appealing every day!
christy082 - That's so annoying! I'm due for my TDAP soon, and I'm not looking forward to it because of that. I hope your arm soreness goes away soon!
travelbug - DO IT! Stay-cations are the best. Definitely not a waste of PTO, and I bet you would feel so much better after taking a few days for yourself.

My parents get into town tonight. H woke up this morning with a cold. It apparently had him feeling crappy enough he called in sick, which he doesn't do so it's probably worse than a normal man cold. I'm bummed at the timing. He is resting in our room and my parents are due within the hour. I'd feel awful if he is miserable the whole time they are here. For his sake and ours. Ugh.
Ever since June, everyone has assured me that my job is protected when I go on mat leave. My manager told me the same thing at our meeting last week. Today the benefits department told me my job is NOT protected and I want to cry.
I guess I might have a job next year or I might not?

WHAT? Are you in the US? How long have you been working there? Did they explain why they think it isn't protected leave?

All of this. Have you been employed a year? Your at a hospital, right? They don't have FMLA?
katespade Yes, I am. I've been working there 9 months, 10 when the baby comes. 12 months is required for FMLA. She said if you don't qualify for FMLA, your job is not protected. There are no other options.

Oh, man. That really sucks. I'm surprised that they don't at least offer some sort of short-term disability leave before you hit 12 months. I'm sorry.

They do have other disability leaves but the benefits lady said all other medical leaves don't protect your job. It's bullshit. A man can't get pregnant so how is that fair or equal?

What is the point of a medical leave if your job is not protected? That doesn't make any sense. I would call and speak to someone else just to verify the information that she gave you. Our benefits department sometimes gives wrong information to our employees, so it definitely wouldn't hurt for you to get a second opinion (or go to your on-site HR, if they are different from your benefits department).
ETA: I just realized you might not be looking for advice. If you aren't, please feel free to ignore me.
No, I'm definitely open to advice. I'll see if my HR can clarify because the offsite benefits office goes straight to voicemail and takes at least 2 days to get back to you.
katespade I'm sorry about the lingering side effects. I hope you feel better soon!
MrsAggie I barely understand our leave policy. And I'm annoyed that my doctor's office wants to charge $25 for FMLA paperwork. Except I don't need FMLA paperwork. I simply need them to verify my leave date with my STD policy. I'm failing to see how that is worth $25. I know, admin fees, blah blah blah, but I've already paid the doctor in full for my entire care so maybe they could just handle it!

We got a $25 fee for H's FMLA paperwork too. I was like you better remember to turn that shit in!! Lol. When I filed my claim for maternity leave today, the guy said they would fax my OB to get her to fill out some certificate authorizing that I'm for real having a baby or whatever. I was like shit that's going to be another $25 fee...
I was planning on taking a personal day after we go downtown for a show in a few months. I marked it as a personal day on my outlook calendar. Wouldn't it be my luck that today I get a request for my evaluation to occur that very day. Her schedule is much busier and it looks like that's the only day to do the eval that week with that class (my awesome class). Guess I'll have to snooze on the train ride home and just do what I can to get through 3rd period before crashing.
