The whole situation scares me. My friend lives close to the place and he says it's like the time when our city got bombed and while the riots are scary, the ignorance is scarier.
And I have seen a lot of "they" - for some reason the use of that term always makes me cringe, no matter when the "they" is used to refer to poor people, immigrants, African Americans, etc.
I am very grateful to be off this week and to not have to listen to the idiocy I'm sure some people are spouting. My accounts are very vocal, I've already put up with all the Obama comments I can take.
My friends list is small enough that I haven't had to deal with anything too crazy today, just an NYC cop posting about standing behind the brotherhood.
Me too and I thought I had a pretty sterilized FB group to begin with.
And it isn't the rednecks. It is the educated ones that are making me the most sad.
I saw our old DCP post something hateful and seriously I think my heart jumped up in my throat. It is devastating to see people show their true colors.

Yes, it's gross. I reported two photos to Facebook today, I've never reported before. One they took down (it was the worst thing it was such a n awful pic) and said they didn't tell the person who reported it (they'll prob know it was me), but the other one they said they didn't remove, but asked the person to remove it. They didn't say if they told them who reported it. I wonder if she knows. Awkward. Most people on my feed are ok, one of these was just a friend of a friend.
YES. My friends list has been pretty well scoured; it's the people I consider otherwise intelligent and well-read who are scaring me with their total lack of ability to see anything but LOOTING! RIOTING! TERRIBLE PEOPLE!
So far the worst I've heard on my end are people who think they're being liberal and empathetic by saying 'I just wish THEY wouldn't negate their own argument with the riots and violence'. Like the rioting cancels out the fact that a cop just walked away for murdering an innocent boy. Ffs.
One woman on my feed who called the rioters "animals" is married to a black man and has a biracial daughter :/
I hid my cousin on facebook today after she was spouting off about how this wouldn't have happened if MB wasn't a criminal and some shit about how when she was his age she was busy playing tennis and staying out of trouble, and she doesn't have to worry about how she'd feel if this was one of HER sons because her sons would never take something that isn't theirs. RAGE.
I didn't respond because she's subsitute hosting Thanksgiving at my grandma's house (since my grandma just had surgery and can't do anything, but my family still wanted to uphold the tradition of being together at her house) and I just can't deal with drama on the first family holiday after my grandfather died earlier this year. But I am NOT looking forward to seeing her. I don't really like her anyway and this just reinforced that opinion way too shortly before seeing her again.

One of my dymbass blue line cop supporters is raising a black son. Like, what?
I never delete people. I just roll my eyes and shake my head but today I've deleted people. The comparisons and the he deserved it comments, I can not.

I've seen several people posting the Chris Rock's How not to get shot by the cops video and saying how if "they" would just listen to Chris Rock this would never happen. I should probably be glad, given where I live, that that's the worst I've seen.

As have I. I'm actually stalking it now because I'm sick over it and I don't want a single disgusting person left on my feed. I didn't get to talk to my son about it much this am before school and I was worried what sort of things he would hear. (He's in 9th grade) Thankfully his group of friends are like minded and we were able to have a thoughtful discussion when he got home.
I'm lucky that I didn't have to delete anyone. There is someone who is debating hard, but I only keep him on my feed because I like to read what he has to say. Not because I would learn anything from him nor I would want to even engage, it's purely for entertainment. He's from my high school and so...meh.
I've read comments from news articles posted and those make me ragey, but they are from complete strangers and again, what I have to say isn't going to change their opinion.

My FB hasn't been bad, thank god. The most shocking thing was when I had to explain what was going on to a friend. They admittedly live with their head in the sand.
