Ehh I haven't had it done but see it all the time in records pertaining to auto accidents. My understanding is that it's a glorified injection and has become really popular (the "it" thing) over the past 2-3 years but I haven't seen great results. Are there any studies available online that may give you a better indication of the likely results? If not I bet your doctor could provide some.

This is to your neck, right? The efficacy of facet joint neurotomy/rhizotomy is still under study, but results so far look somewhat promising. Our doctors primarily use it to provide pain relief so that the patient can be more active in therapy, but statistically, it provides pain relief for approximately 35 weeks after procedure, which is great.
Technically, it's a few steps above an injection. They'll cut a small portal and pass a radiofrequency probe down to the nerve at the facet, then basically blast it with radiofrequency waves to kill off the nerve for a bit. Nerves do regenerate, though, which is why it typically only lasts 6-9 months.
