Anyone having a fit over the "black people" rioting over this has clearly never seen Lexington downtown during the final four NCAA tournament. Couches on fire, everywhere you look.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
Last night when we were watching the coverage, my husband made some comment about how the tear gas makes you cough, etc. And I was like "when the hell were you tear gassed?" Anyway, his experience with tear gas was when we were in college and there were riots over our basketball team losing. He actually didn't riot but was walking around after the fact and his point was the tear gas lingers.
Also one of my friends posted something similar (riots over the World Series win) which I thought offered excellent perspective.

It's really the only way to celebrate or mourn. Lighting a couch on fire, I mean.
Can someone please explain rioting over a sports team win or loss? i cannot understand this.at all. Is it a testosterone thing or what?
Boston in 2004...well, the Red Sox hadn't won a World Series in 86 years. So people went a little nuts when they won.
Vancouver in 2011...no Canadian team has won a Stanley Cup since 1993. Vancouver lost to the New York Rangers (yeah, we kinda rioted too I guess since our drought had lasted 54 years) in the Cup Finals in 1994. So here was Vancouver's chance, but then they lost to Boston in Game 7 in their home arena. And you know how Canadians feel about hockey.
I don't care about college sports so I can't explain that. And fuck the rioters after the Sandusky scandal at Penn State.
Don't ask me to explain pumpkins in New Hampshire because I don't know WTF they do there. Live free or die by pumpkin?
With college campuses, I think it's often a chain reaction of dumb, drunk people heading out to the streets and a high concentration of them in one place. I feel like it sort of became a thing when I was in college and now it's less of a chain reaction and more of a "let's riot, yay!"
At least on college campuses. I have no idea about pro sports though.

I was outside of Fenway Park that night in 2004 and it got nutty!! Sadly a girl was killed by the police with a rubber bullet, too, iirc.

And just to clarify I had been at a bar watching the game. Everyone in the streets came pouring out of the bars totally hammered and cheering and celebrating. I hung around for around half an hour (before there were really rioting) and then it started getting weird so I walked away from the area and went home.

I'll never understand it. They're just assholes. I don't understand why it's necessary to burn or flip some other person's car to show your excitement. Assholes. I always wish the car owner would confront them and ask them what the fuck they think they're doing.
But you know what? I don't think this is 'perspective.' No one ever empathizes with those sports rioters. Everyone knows they're idiots and hopes they get arrested.

Yeah, I just posted that. I had one eye on the news and one on my computer, so I missed the beginning of the story. I thought this was happening right now?
I can't believe anyone thought it was a good idea to walk out onto 95 at night! I pray they didn't bring kids with them.

Oh in the big thread? I'm wading in there next. I haven't read it all day BC i wanted to devote time to it. I think police are still out there but thankfully the people are off the highway now.
