I am going to Philly tomorrow. The girls are singing in the parade - woo hoo. They have practice until @2. It is supposed to be cold, wet, and rainy (maybe some snow). Do you think it will still be a horrible idea to take in some sights? I was hoping to show them the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. I think I am right in the art district (?). They practice/sing at the Museum of Art but we are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. I will have a vehicle but I am hoping to get a family pass and just subway/transit it the day.
What are some other things that 2 10 yr olds and a 6 yr old would enjoy that is mostly inside? We will definitely be swimming in the hotel pool after dinner/before bed.
Franklin institute or academy of natural science would be fun for those ages/- both are close to the art museum.
I don't know if the Christmas stuff starts before thanksgiving or not? The Comcast building has a really cool Christmas display but you'd have to google to see I its started.
Will you be at the Center City HGI? If so, Reading Terminal Market, which is my favorite thing in Philadelphia, is right across the street. It is a good place for the kids to get a snack.
I really loved the Mint when I was 10 and we went on a field trip, but I was a geeky child.
I would not try to drive around Philly if you can avoid it. Public transit and walking are the way to go.
Thanks ladies. I think the Franklin Institute it is. Hopefully we will get to Gino's and Pat's too for some cheesesteaks. Yummmm. Yes, I plan to go to both
Do yourself a favor and get a Jim's steak instead. They are on South Street.
I particularly don't like Pat's or Geno's, but they are places for tourists to visit. Me and my DH once ordered steaks from both in same day so we could compare or just use that as an excuse to eat 2 cheesesteaks!

They're both really out of the way and are kind of famous for being famous more than anything else. Jim's on South Street would be way more convenient.

Personally I prefer Tony Luke's for a cheesesteak. There is something fun about seeing pats and Genos but yes there are better choices. The weather will be terrible tomorrow. I think the Franklin institute is the best suggestion.

Good to know. I don't really care - I just hear all the hype. I just want a yummy hot sandwich - mmmm. If it as miserable as it is supposed to be, then I will take the closest place.
Thank you for all your ideas - And we ended up doing NOTHING, lol. By the time we got up there, it was sleeting/snowing and absolutely miserable. I tried to get the kids to walk a few places - 2 blocks in everyone wanted to go back to the hotel., lol.
We were right on top/behind the Reading Market - so we had lunch/dinner/dessert there. We did spend about an hour in there, just looking around. The best part was swimming in the hotel pool for the kids.
Parade day was very cold, but not unbearable. We actually couldn't see most of the parade because we were in between the steps of the museum and bleachers. The parade was in front of the bleachers, lol.
