NPCER: Are hot roast beef sandwiches odd?

My mom is having family over on Friday, and we were throwing around easy food ideas.  I suggested hot roast beef sandwiches - put deli roast beef in the slow cooker with beef broth and some seasonings, and serve with rolls.  She thinks this is a Delaware thing and is "weird."  The first time she had this was when a friend made it for my 30th birthday party almost 5 years ago.

My mom is pretty much always in BEC mode, even though I love her to pieces.  She just kept saying how strange this concept was, as though I had suggested Ethiopian food or a Hawaiian pig roast.

So, have you had this sort of sandwich?  Am I crazy for suggesting it?

We call those French dips. Okay, so maybe not all hot roast beef is French dip, but if you had some au jus around, I bet people would love it.

Its basically a french dip. Not weird or odd....they are delicious!!

You could cook a beef roast in your slow cooker, shred it in your stand mixer when cooked (just a minute or 2 or slow), put it back in the slow cooker, had bbq sauce and heat for awhile. Makes great bbq sandwiches. Could use pork or chicken too.

This is going to sound soooo gross, but I swear it's NOT. When I was a kid we'd heat up a can of beef gravy, not stock, gravy, and put the deli sliced roast beef in and warm it up and make open roast beef sandwiches.  Oh, and I'm from MA.

I like them either the way you described with leftover beef roast or I make them junk food style with deli meat, provolone cheese, and a microwave.

I was practically yelling IT'S JUST ROAST BEEF IN BROTH WITH ROLLS. HOW IS THAT STRANGE?

Thats called a French Dip and its awesomely delicious. Not regional OR weird.

There are a billion variations of beef sandwiches, right? Italian beef, cheesesteaks, beef on weck, roast beef po' boy. Seems to be a pretty common concept everywhere.

Yes that's a French dip and yes that's delicious.

A hot beef (or turkey) sandwich involves gravy and it's incredible.

Cook your beef with a couple of packets of good seasons Italian dressing mix, broth, and pepperocinis. Walla, Italian beef.

I've never heard of using deli meat in a French dip but regardless it sounds delicious and is making me hungry!

Hot beefs (yes, that is really what people call them) are definitely normal and popular where I am from.

I hope everyone else has a better name, though.
