I used to go shopping all the time. Like it was a hobbie. Now I just do it when the mood strikes or something is damaged/extremely worn looking and I need to replace it.
I don't have a lot of clothes and I haven't really gone shopping since June. I hang dry most of my clothes and get a few wears out of my pants, sweaters, skirts, and dresses. So they seem to last a long time.
I need to know what brand/type of fabric your clothing is because I'm desperately looking for clothes that holds up over time! I guess the biggest issue I have is colors fading and things just look 'grubby' after a season or two. Anything made out of cotton generally falls into this category. I've also switched to Woolite laundry detergent in hopes that will help (versus more harsh detergents).
Most of my clothes are Banana Republic, Banana Republic Outlet, Brooks Brothers, J. Crew, and Ralph Lauren. Fabrics vary -- cotton, polyester, wool, rayon, silk, etc.
I wash whites and colors separately (and even different colors separately).
But I really think the reason why my clothes don't fall apart is that I just don't wash them that often.
Every few months I'll buy a couple new pieces, for something specific usually. Trying to think of the last few things...last week I bought a sequin dress for holiday parties, 5 weeks ago I bought two new tops for Vegas (that are very casual and have worn alot since then), a few weeks before that a cute sweatshirt at F21.
I'm a shopping addict so as long as I'm not out there looking, I won't buy. It's always been a problem for me, I just collect clothes, shoes, bags, etc. I've been making a conscious effort the last 6 months to really only but new stuff as I need it. I got rid of a lot of old, beat up clothes when we just moved. Now my closet is twice as big as before, and it's only about 1/2 full. Lots of room to grow!

I do this, too. I wash when needed. Also, I will sometimes get things dry-cleaned even if I *can* put them in the washer. Things stay much nicer.
A few times a year, but when I do it's in closely spaced spurts. Like three trips/online purchases in two weeks, then not again for four months.
I do the same, and then I feel so guilty for spending so much on myself in such a short amount of time! I usually do a big haul each season and pick up a few things here and there in between, whenever something catches my eye or I need something specific. I purge probably twice a year.
i go through periods where i am not choosey enough with my purchases, and it leads to me hating the garment after 1-2 wears, then i donate and then i buy again.
I do this too. Lately I am trying to be more conscious about buying only things I love, but sometimes I need a quick fix which I then regret almost immediately.
My clothes shopping was out of control the first few years after I had David and didn't know how to dress my new body. It took a lot of trial and error figuring out what looked good on me. Now I spend much less. I usually buy several things at the beginning of a season an not much else until the next season, and then purge my old stuff. I try to really be mindful about what I buy. I hate how wasteful I used to be.
Maybe once a season and its usually like one piece. This because I am trying to lose weight and a super stylish friend of mine recently gave me about 4 trashbags FULL Of stuff with tags, barely used etc... so I use that.
I fully admit I miss the hell out of shopping. But 2 years ago we were ready to buy a house, had a good amount saved and had gotten to a comfy spot. then I found out I was Pg with Leo. which was a huge oops. So that put saving on hold and we dipped into savings for daycare so I feel too guilty to spend money on myself.
In jan I start a new position at work that gives me a work from home every Friday and more flexible hours so we will save huge on daycare. Not only that I will make more so I see a shopping spree in my future. I am a tad too excited about that.
I rarely shop for myself. I did a big clothing purge the last 2x time I moved.
ETA: I just have a difficult time finding casual clothing that looks good on me, and doesn't seem like it will fall apart quickly.
My 3 year old, however, has a closet full of clothing. Most of it purchased online, and I do buy a size or two up for him. I'd guess in the next year he could get by with the clothing in his closet with me simply buying him socks. I purge his closet 3-4x a year, and donate what I can, and recycle the rest.
