I plan to never let DD know that getting out of the whale tub is even an option at bath time. She sits there and chews and on the gold fish shower mug thingy that came with the tub. Probably the only time of the day she sits fixated on something for longer than 20 seconds. Maybe you can try sticking him back in the baby tub if you have one?

Yes, we just have a mat we put down, throw a few floaty toys in and let her crawl around, within reason. We'll reseat her when she stands, and not let her put her mouth on the faucet, but will let her go, other than that.
So far, she's stayed on the mat and we haven't had any issues, other than the standing towards the end.

What? haha. DD was trying to climb over the edge of her baby tub as soon as she learned to crawl.
to OP: We just put a large suctiony mat down and let her go for it. She crawls/stands, etc all over the tub. We do try to distract her with toys, but that only works for so long.

IDK. She's very mobile but for some reason she doesn't understand that escaping the tub is an option.
And now I have probably jinxed myself for bath time tonight.
DS was like this for a while. It lasted only a month. We struggled with sitting him down over and over. It changed when he got more interested in his bath toys. Specifically he has a bunch of rubber ducks and woul throw them in and then get in after them. That was our magic turning point.

M loves bath time and has now decided it's a slip-n-slide. We bought a bath mat, but otherwise we're just right there with him to catch him or encourage him to settle down or sit.

He crawls, stands, walks. I try to sit him down but it's futile. He has slipped and his face has gotten wet - nbd. Whoever is giving the bath is always right there so there us no ridk if drowning, a bruise, sure but we already get plenty of those on dry land.

DS is not allowed to do anything but sit and lay back. He's not allowed to jump around or stand up. I sound like a mean mommy BUT, I work in an ED and you wouldn't believe the amount of kids that we've had come in and they have fell on the faucet. I'm not just talking about facial injuries. We had a 3 year old last week who fell on his butt on the faucet and it was a traumatic injury. Without going into detail I'll just say there will be issues for LIFE for this little guy.
All DS knows is to sit or lay back at this point because I was such a hard ass about bathtub rules.

We also have a mat. He will crawl around. He used to want to stand and walk around. Before he was old enough to understand "sit", I keep sitting him down until he got the point that I want him to sit down. I just sound really firm and consistent. Sometime he acts like he is testing me. It is much easier now that he understands me.
We just let him run around in there. He has to learn stability somehow. He's two and there hasn't been an issue yet. We also bathe/shower together most of the time, so that helps too.

My dd is the same way! She's 21 months and still prefers the whale tub. I think the big tub scares her

I'm not going to make bath time a horrible experience with two crying kids by making them sit there and lay on their backs and do nothing. We supervise them and are always in reaching distance of the baby. We have a faucet cover and a bath mat. They can play as long as they aren't being absolutely insane and out of control.

Falling on the butt on the faucet? I'm trying to picture it- but aren't they kind of higher than butt level?
If they are standing up, I can see a 3 year old being able to fall on it. We have a cover for that reason and neither kid can get it off.
