UPS delivered a package addressed to my husband to the wrong house. They used their GPS tracking to see where the package was when it was scanned as delivered and then went to the house to attempt to retrieve the package. The people that live there said they didn't have it.
I wouldn't have thought anything of it except that when we went to our next door neighbors' to see if maybe they had the package they told us that the mother of the guy that lives in the house UPS says the package was delivered to came to them shortly after UPS left crying and upset because she said that she lied and her son opened the package and kept its contents. Our neighbors encouraged her to contact UPS and tell the truth, but who knows if she actually did.
UPS went back to the house today and stood there talking to the son for a long while. My husband called after they left and asked for an update and they said they cannot release any information about that visit to us. I don't know if this means UPS is filing a police report or not, but I wonder if we should consider filing our own report based on what we know, which, admittedly, isn't much.
It just really chaps my ass that this guy (and his mother) are lying about keeping something they damn well know isn't theirs.
TL;DR: UPS misdelivered package, person is lying about having package, UPS may or may not be handling, they won't tell for confidentiality reasons, would you file police report?
They have admitted responsibility for the misdelivery and we will be reimbursed.
I'm in Moral Crusader mode right now though and want justice. None of our other neighbors are assholes like these people are and it fucking figures that that is the house UPS misdelivered to.
Not that it matters but I'm curious, is it even something the son would enjoy or does he just like the fact that he got something for nothing? This would irritate me to no end.nnif the mother was so upset why did she lie? Could she be afraid of her son? How old is he?

iPod touch, so I'm sure the son, who is a grown-ass adult, definitely wants to keep it.
Our next door neighbors said that they prayed with her on the matter, so I'd venture a guess that the mother has at least some Christian conviction, but not enough to stop enabling her son. I'm having a hard time wording that in a way that doesn't make me sound like an asshole.

I would insist UPS replace the iPod Touch to you. Their fuck-up, they owe you. But I would also (consider) filing a police report and bring your neighbor in as a witness. The only reason I wouldn't file the report is if you know the thieving neighbors would retaliate against you by damaging your property or harming you.
It's a delivery error and UPS considers it a "cost of doing business". The guy's an ASSHOLE but not not worth an ounce of your time/energy. Move on. Your ipad will be re- delivered and the universe will punish him 3x over.
UPS is covering a replacement? Then I wouldn't do anything. This is between UPS and your neighbor. Save the hassle of police reports for when they actually do something to you, and if they're this big of assholes, that day will eventually come.
