So far my Thanksgiving planning is going much as expected.
4 of my placemats have disappeared into thin air so I now have 4 placemats for 8 people and my MIL forgot to bring hers. I forgot I was melting chocolate chips and they burned filling the house with a revolting burned chocolate smell and cracking my glass bowl. Lastly (so far) our brining bag just burst all over the place. My husband's face was such a picture. I can't stop laughing. Hopefully our guests will have a sense of humor about all this because who knows what else is going to go wrong! LOLOLOL.
It sounds like you have a good attitude about everything, though! A happy, non-stressed hostess goes a long way, even if things are falling apart at the seams all around you.
Just don't use placemats and no one will notice that you're missing half of them. Put a pot of water, vanilla, cinnamon, and oranges on your stove and let it simmer to help with the chocolate smell. Also, if you're cooking turkey and other stuff tomorrow, the chocolate smell will be long gone. You've probably already finished the brining process, but lots of people just use a big garbage bag for brining.
You have a great sense of humor! We had a Thanksgiving like that when I was about 8 years old...nothing went right. I remember my mom laughing as we cleaned up one disaster after another. (She dropped the bowl with the pumpkin filling into the pie pan as she was filling it, pumpkin splashed everywhere. The yeast for the rolls was bad, so the dough didn't rise, etc.)

I have secured placemats! My neighbor is going to her sister's for Thanksgiving and has 8 I can borrow. I'm going to take kiddo over there for an impromptu play date for an hour tomorrow morning and grab them. It will actually be a nice day and give kiddo a chance to burn off some energy before our guests arrive.
