This was mentioned on my BMB and I was surprised by some answers. If your family has embroidered stockings, what is the name you have on yours? Your name or some variation of Mom?
Do you do nicknames or given names?
Ours have our real names and we use nicknames b/c the 3 people w/ nicknames in our house (Ellie, Jack & Jim) go by those names pretty much 100%.

We have two sets of stockings (that's what happens when you are disorganized and misplace the box of stockings, only to find them two years later). One set has our first names (nicknames if we have them ) and the other set has Mommy/Daddy, kids' full names. If I remember correctly, DH pushed for the Mommy/Daddy stockings. I think I preferred names at the time. Now I'm just happy to remember where they are each year.
It didn't occur to me to use Mom or dad either, b/c yea, that's not my name! I was surprised that a number of people on my BMB were doing that or suggesting it.
My MIL bought DH and I embroidered stockings (with our first names) for our first married Christmas. Since PB still has the same stockings we received, we just continued to order them as our family grew (even the dog has the mini version). Though our DD's go by Maddie and Allie 99% of the time, I still had their stockings embroidered with Madeline and Alexandra. I guess I am formal like that.
My MIL makes stockings for new family members, continuing the tradition of my GMIL (her mom) doing it. So H has one his grandma made, I have one my MIL made the year we got married, and then she made one for DD when she was born. They all have our first names because we weren't parents when we got them. H's has a nickname but neither DD or I go by one.

Both DH and I still have and hang our childhood stockings. Mine has my name. His has his nickname he goes by 100% of the time (He's a William). They don't match each other but I like using them. We still need to get DD a personalized one.
I made our stockings for our first Christmas when Jack was born, so they said "Mom" and "Dad" on them, but this year I ordered PB stockings with our real names. Well, in two weeks I'll order them when we know the sex of this baby.

DH and I have our first names since we've had them since before kids. I just ordered my kids their first stockings since this is the first Christmas we will be at home. I did ds1's nn since he never goes by his given name and it's long.
When I was a kid we didn't have names on our stockings and their were fights over whose was whose. Mine was the best one!

My MIL also embroiders our stockings. The have our first names and birth year. I can't remember if DS' has his full name or his NN. I also can't remember if DH or DS' has the Roman numeral at the end like their names have. Guess I'll find out in a week or so when I pull them out.
I guess part of it is that I get a stocking regardless of parenting status. We did them w/o kids, too, and I assume I'll have one forever, even on Christmases that my kids might not be with me. (sniff sniff)
Ours have our first names because we bought them before we had kids. But, I admit I struggled with whether to change that after DS was born (I didn't though).

Shut yer mouth. I'm in denial this will ever happen. I will so be that MIL that makes the guilt physically painful if you go somewhere else. No shame.
Also I was digging out decorations yesterday and found the card and pic you sent last year with my ornament and dang your kids are cute. And Joey has already claimed that light up tree thing for his room.
Aw thanks. Oh, Joey! Smart boy! I don't even want to think about my kids being big enough to go somewhere else for Christmas let alone them actually doing it. I'll one of those wine glasses that fits an entire bottle of wine.

H's grandma refuses to travel, so we all go to her 2 weeks before Christmas and celebrate Christmas in a hotel. (she's a hoarder) It's awesome. Kids get to swim, nobody has to cook because we eat out, and we get to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas day at "home" We go to my mom's Christmas night and have brunch at our house Christmas morning.
