I hope you all have a great day, with family, friends, etc. I'm missing out on being with my siblings in VA so I'm a little sad. I'm at work (in London) and keep getting asked if thanksgiving is generally celebrated more than Christmas in the US. What do you all think? Also people keep asking what the main meal Americans have for Christmas? Apparently it's turkey here.
I think Christmas is bigger here. I think it is tough to be in another country for American holidays though since they don't celebrate it, and it's tougher for you to celebrate the way you're used to. A good friend of mine is living in London now and wrote a similar post.

Aw. I spent seven thanksgivings in London-- I loved going to St Paul's thanksgiving mass! But it was hard to be away from friends and family in the US. Although, like July 4, I always found in amusing when people US-based asked what are plans were to celebrate - it's an American only holiday.
I think Christmas is bigger. I do wish their was a larger gap between Christmas and thanksgiving. I feel like Christmas is almost taking over - Canada's timeline I think would be better.

Happy Thanksgiving! And happy Thursday to America's hat .
I agree that more people celebrate thanksgiving but Christmas is bigger because of the shopping and decorations. We eat ham, turkey, or beef. Usually ham I think.
I think Christmas is bigger in that it's so commercialized that it's everywhere you look before even Thanksgiving. But numbers wise I bet more people celebrate Thanksgiving than Christmas in the US.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on this board! I'm so thankful I have a place to ask questions, get help when I need it and of course learn about awesome sales. This board rocks!

Happy Thanksgiving!
I think Christmas is bigger than Thanksgiving here. Maybe because it is a 2 day celebration with events on Christmas Eve (for many people) and Christmas Day.
For Christmas Food, we usually have Turkey and Ham. In the past we have had prime rib. On Christmas Eve we always have oyster stew/soup and vegetable soup.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! I just got an email for 15% off from the company I am buying DH's Christmas present from (a watch from Christopher Ward), so excited!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It's been a lovely morning already. DH gently woke me at 9am (!!!) to tell me DS had pooped on the potty, had breakfast, and he'd done the dishes. I'm now GBCNing while eating ALONE. Fabulous!
We're leaving in a few minutes for the lake. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.
I spent a Thanksgiving in Ireland. My American roommate and I made big traditional (or as close as we could get) meal and invited a bunch of our Irish friends. It was great and they loved the food. It was one of my favorite Thanksgivings ever.
For Christmas we usually serve leg of lamb or roast beef. I HATE ham, so that's never an option, although DH's grandma tries to make it every year and he has to remind her she can't.
Omg MHs family wants to drive 20 minutes to get flour to fucking make gravy. Gah, gravy is not that important! I am hungry and need to go to work in a few hours.

Happy thanksgiving, everyone! I think ham is popular for Xmas though I know a bunch of families who do lasagne. teatimefor2, it's interesting because my British dh loves that thanksgiving is s month before Xmas. He feels like it creates a month-long holiday season that the Brits don't have.
