Just woke up to find that a town plow backed up (clear tire marks in the snow) and hit out brand new granite retaining wall and post and snapped the post. It is laying in my driveway. I am so angry. We just spent thousands in September to replace the retaining wall and we put in the post so that people could clearly see where it was and NOT hit it. This guy just wasn't looking. Only a plow would be big enough to snap a massive granite post!
ETA: The officer that came out to take the police report said he was shocked that they broke it and that given the giant tire tracks, salt, and little pile of snow that it looks like a plow. Uh yup. He said is he going to call the town and find out whether it was a DPW truck or a contractor. Now that that is taken care of, on to the turkey!
That sucks! Did you take pictures in case you want to pursue anything?
Yeah, H went out to take pictures and some poor officer is coming out now to file a police report. I pay way too much in taxes to not have them pay for the damage!
Glad the officer was out quickly to start the process. I'd be so angry too!
Totally random musing, but driving a plow must be tough, poor rear view visibility coupled with generally the worst driving conditions, including not being able to tell whether you're driving on road.

It's definitely not a job I would want. It's not as if this is the only property damage that will happen this year! They hit stuff all the time.
