I have 2 twin girl nieces, they are 9 (turning 10 in January) and a 6 1/2 year old nephew. I have noooo idea what to get them! The girls are into horses, Taylor Swift, beyond that I have no idea. My nephew seems to like trains (we saw them over the summer and he loved Max's train set and wanted to play with it all night - he has one like it at home.) Here's the thing though --- these kinds have TONS OF STUFF and tons of toys. My stepsister is weird about Christmas and 2 years in a row I've asked her for suggestions of what to get them and she hasn't responded at all. She ended up getting Max toys similar to what we had. It feels like kind of a waste! I want to get them something cool and either educational or just stuff that they'll really love but don't know what to do at this point. A few years ago I got them pogo sticks. LOL...
I agree with the experience. I think that a lot of kids get a lot of 'stuff' so sometimes its nice to give them something fun to do. Maybe look around their area, maybe there's a train museum or something like that.

I just bought for my 10 year old godson and 6 year old goddaughter, their mom suggested Legos. Apparently they are a hot toy in their house and they are always fighting over them.

I usually take my niece and nephew (10 and 8) somewhere like a hockey game for Hannukah. This year I bought them stuff. Niece is getting an iPad mini so I bought her iTunes gift cards. Nephew is getting an xbox one, so I got him a game.

from my teaching experience, I think 9-10 year olds vary drastically in their likes and maturity so that's a really tough age to buy for. I think most like nail polish sets (although an immature 9 year old might not be ready) and anything that makes them feel grown up even though they arent
