“Life is not orderly. No matter how we try to make it so, right in the middle of it lose a leg, fall in love, drop a jar of applesauce.” - Natalie Goldberg
Several years ago, Cooks Illustrated did a review of cookware, and they liked the All Clad best. However, if you don't want to spend the $$$$$$, they suggested the Tramontina tri-ply at Walmart. It is not in the stores, only online.
We bought a couple sauce pans and I do like them a LOT. They have done very well, but want to say they were $30-40 each. My other cookware is a 70+ year old Revereware that is NOTHING like what you can get today (it was my grandmothers, and she died 35 years ago) and Le Crueset.

If All Clad is out of the budget, see if you can find the Jamie Oliver Stainless Steel pot and pan set with the copper core. They can be used on gas, ceramic or induction cooktops and are great. We've had our set for 5 years now and they look brand new. They regularly go on sale 60% off in my area.
Do not get the Jamie Oliver t-fal coated black anodized pots. They are cheaper and suck.

I remember the episode about the Walmart cookware- DH called me in to watch it.
TBH, I am not much into sets. I have a mix of items.
I have DH's old Revereware (I'm guessing it's about 40-45 years old) and I'm not dazzled- I've had one pan warp and another split down the side. I have a couple Revere all copper pots that are fabulous, especially for sauces. I also like my Cuisinart stainless.
For frying/sauteing, I like nonstick Tfal or my Lodge cast iron. I'd love a Le Cruset Dutch but I can't justify since I have a great Lodge one.
