Question on those fancy new fitness watches etc. My brother is kinda a fitness dude - he's 19. He used to run track/cross country and in general on a regular basis. He's been running again and my dad said he would want one of those fitness watches for Christmas.
I know know nothing of these things. So which is best? I'm looking at these:
I have the Nike watch and I'm not impressed with it. I'd go Garmin over Nike if I had it to do over again. I was so distracted by how cool looking it was!
I'm so shallow.
ETA: the Garmin forerunner, that is. It's a favorite amongst the folks in my running groups.
Of the ones you listed, go with the Garmin Forerunner. I like mine. I've had it a couple years and I like that it syncs with my computer so I can track all my runs.
But lately I've been trying to run based on heart rate and let go of my dependence on the watch a little bit so I'm looking at some new things coming out that have a decent HRM.
I don't have one but check the fitness board as well. There was a recommendations post recently and a black Friday post with a bunch of Garmins listed and where to find the deals.
Interested in the replies here. I think I am going to try the fitbit charge hr when it comes out.
I'd wait until some reviews come out on how well the HRM on it works. There's been some concerns that there might be too much light leakage for it to work accurately.

Damn. I'm getting a Nike for Christmas this year (already purchased). My budget was limited to that or the Garmin Forerunner 10, and all the reviews I read made them seem fairly equal so I went for the pretty. :/ What don't you like about it?

I do intervals, and while the Nike watch says you can program them in it doesn't beep or buzz or anything when the intervals end. Lame. Also, if you use the Nike + app and sync your watch, it records the same run twice. I've contacted customer service about it and it isn't something that can be fixed. Double lame. And the sensors take FORFUCKINGEVER to link up.
At this point it's just a cool looking watch sitting in my basket. I may see about selling it, now that I think about it!

Shit. Intervals were one of the things I particularly wanted. We got it on sale a few weeks ago but it's still unopened so I'll have to see if we can return it.
ETA: H just swapped it for the Garmin, yay! So glad I read this thread.
