After spending New Year's in Romania and Bulgaria, the beginning of the year was mainly smaller local trips: Surfing trips to Oman, camping in the giant sand dunes in Liwa, Abu Dhabi, etc.
In May we visited Thailand and Malaysia. July, Mauritius and Seychelles. October, China and Mongolia. And next week we will head to Lake Tahoe for Christmas.
I also had work trips to Qatar and Jordan, but I don't really count them since it was work.
How were Romania & Bulgaria that time of year? I would like to visit both, but we can only take a long trip in November/December.
If it weren't for a 3 week visit to my home state I wouldn't have left Australia at all. Since I don't consider visiting family in the upper Midwest "travel" I'll stick to domestic Australia travel!
April: South Australia - Flinders Ranges & cage diving with a Great White shark. Didn't really do Adelaide, but cities don't overly excite me
May: Northern Territory - Litchfield National Park & the highlights of the metropolis Darwin
June: Sydney
October: Whale watching in Hervey Bay, QLD
November: Granite Belt wine region of QLD
A handful of trips to the Sunshine and Gold Coasts for bachelorette parties and quick getaway weekends.
Highlight: Cage diving for sure. I will absolutely do it again, but it'd be much cheaper in South Africa or Mexico.
Surprised me: How curious, nimble and active humpback whales are. I think it's absolutely worth going farther up the QLD coast to see them, rather than farther south near the population centers. I plan to do this every year I live here. They are so majestic!
Didn't live up to expectations: I would have liked to go higher up the Flinders Rangers. We did a tour where we stayed at ground level, but I wanted to go up onto the mountain!

It was great. I did one big trip as I don't have the finances or time to travel often haha.
I went to Prague, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Berlin, and Geneva in May and it was amazing. I loved every minute of that trip and I'd love to go back to Prague and Berlin again.

I think they would be way better in the summer. Romania was charming in the mountains at Christmas time, but in general the sky was gray throughout our trip and communist era Eastern European architecture is not exactly uplifting. Like your situation, we went then because we could, which was awesome, but if summer were a choice I think it would be much more pretty.

I am heading to Prague and Berlin in March - pass any suggestions my way!
Wow. You girls travel a lot. I went to NYC, Turks and Caicos, and Puerto Rico….and that was a busy year, lol. PR surprised me the most. I loved it there so much more than I thought. But. We stayed in at Ritz Carlton Reserve Dorado Beach and that made all the difference. Parrot Cay was our second trip and it is spectacular. But my favorite 2014 experience was NYC. We always stay at the Greenwich hotel which is a harbor for celebs, even just those hiding out from photogs all day. We saw Kiefer Sutherland, Dave Matthews, Bradley Cooper, Gina Gershon. Very cool to sip a glass of wine and attempt to eavesdrop:)
How did you like the Ritz at Dorado? We are looking into potentially doing a pre-baby vacation there this spring
We loved it. Get a West room, bottom floor with plunge pool. The upper levels have balconies with no cover. Food & restaurants were great. Expensive but worth it.
