I can't believe this. I had strep throat over thanksgiving and now I have a pretty intense head cold. My throat and sinus passages have been sore as scratchy since Monday night and now I have all the other stuffy head and congestion symptoms. Normally I just let these things run their course but I'm desperate for some kind of remedy that will help me get over it faster
I have a three hour dress rehearsal tonight and three concerts this weekend. I'm singing a solo and in three small group pieces with only 8 people so if I'm not there it makes a difference. Also, I'm singing soprano in two if the pieces for the first time ever and have had to work really hard at those high notes. I can't hit them now bc I this cold.
So far I'm drinking about three packets of emergen c a day. Lots of hot fluids like teas or hot water with lemon and honey. I just took some actual cold medicine to help with the head congestion. Any other remedies you can think of? Oh! I had some spicy Pho soup today too. That only helped temporarily.
I know what I really need is sleep. The sore throat has kept me up for two nights.
A hot shower usually helps me, at least temporarily. Sleep is the best thing to cure all of that up though. Can you take 2 nyquil and call it a night?
I hope you feel better soon!
Ps I would say netti pot, but after reading about it in the other thread I'm going to have to advise against it.
Yes, I plan on knocking myself out tonight with something. In not going to sing at my dress rehearsal tonight. I'll just observe and review my music. I've never actually heard us from the audience so that will be nice anyway.
Netti pot ( @uwhuskygirl) DEFINITELY take whatever you need to help you sleep! Sleep is the most important thing to helping you get better. Sadly, the best you can do is manage the symptoms. Lay off talking unless absolutely necessary to let your vocal cords and throat rest. Some people suggest gargling with salt water to help the throat (its gross and will probably hurt)
I'll just add a weird trick that's helped me in the past - boil a big pot of salt water, lean forward over the pot, throw a towel over your head and breathe in the steam. Do it as log as you can stand and breathe through both nose and mouth.
Thanks for all the tips! I just finished taking a scalding hot bath with lavender and mint bath salts H got for me for my birthday. I'm skipping my dress rehearsal in lieu of taking some cold meds and passing the F out
Ughhh. I feel soo sick. I couldn't even do the netti pot this morning bc my basal passage was so swollen and stuffy and the water couldn't get through. I hope I can sing this weekend
