It was so fun hanging out with my brother and his girlfriend. We seriously just laughed our butts off the entire time.
My mom (and step-monster) came up on Saturday afternoon and left within 15 minutes of walking in the door to meet friends for dinner. Awesome. Nice seeing you too, mom.
On Sunday, they woke up and ran out to the flea market instead of coming to the sports bar with us to watch football. Double awesome.
We all went out to an early Christmas dinner on Sunday night and I got stuck footing the bill (loooonnngggg story). My mother then proceeded to have a nervous breakdown/cry fest that night afterwards. They left Monday morning and sanity was restored!
Overall, it was fun, but my mother needs to get her shit together.

I actually kinda want to hear this long story.
Man, Sit. I'm sorry your mom flaked out like that and then broke down like that. What got her so upset? I'm glad you were able to spend quality time with your brother and his GF though.

Welcome back, sorry to hear some things haven't changed with your mom. Glad it was overall a good time, though. Family time often creates the most lasting memories (whether good or bad) and it's awesome you had the chance to go down there!
Glad you had fun with your brother and his gf (and got to enjoy some warm weather!). I'm so happy you can kind of roll your eyes at your mom and move on now. I'm sorry she's difficult, but you are handling it well!
Well, to make it a bit shorter, my mom and her husband basically don't have a lot of money, but that is their fault. They both work crap jobs that pay very little and they choose to work very little also. They think they are retired, but they are far from it. They also waste money on bullsh!t instead of saving it for dinners, traveling, etc.
We went to an affordable restaurant and everyone ate and drank the same amount pretty much. My brother and I had a coffee and no one else did. The bill came to about $200 for the 5 of us. The bill came, mom stared at it, so I grabbed it, figured out the total with tip and told everyone they owed $49. My mom and step monster's eyes bugged out of their heads. I told my brother and his girlfriend that I would treat them since they were nice enough to have me stay with them. After a bunch of whispers and my mom having a heart attack, I just paid the damn bill. Did I have to? No. But, if I hadn't it would have been super awkward and I didn't want to endure any drama.
My mom was crying because (she was hammered, btw) she is lonely, has no money, and her husband treats her like crap. We consoled her, but then gave her some tough love.

Yeah, they were banking on you footing the bill.
Look, just b/c she is your mom doesn't mean you HAVE to have that toxicity in your life. What will happen when she is old, still has no money and nowhere to go? She'll probably start hitting you up for everything. I'm not saying we shouldn't take care of our parents, but she also shouldn't take advantage of you, either.
