R&O's has good po'boys. It is in Metarie, so not close to the other stuff you might want to do, but it is more of a local place. My SIL is a NOLA native and she brings us here every time we visit.
Will L be with you? If so I think the zoo and acquarium are both supposed to be good.
We were there 2 years ago, we enjoyed: Hurricanes at Pat O'Briens, taking the trolley down to the Garden District, walking around the cemeteries, swamp tour, beignets at Cafe du Monde, and Commander's Palace.

I just remembered, you guys should definitely go to the Carosel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone for a drink.
If you find yourself tempted to go to Brennan's, don't. It is stuffy and overpriced. My MIL made us a reservation there for my H's birthday two years ago (unsolicited, we already had other plans) and he felt to bad to cancel. I'm still annoyed.

I just googled, and I get a broken site
It's just an old bar in a hotel, but it is shaped like a carosel and spins around. The hotel is on Royal St., about a block off Bourbon. Not a must do but fun if you happen to walk by and be in the mood for a cocktail.
WWII museum is really interesting if you are into that. Mardi Gras museum may be open. Bon Ton Cafe on Magazine in the CBD is really good. It's only open during the week though. I also like Drago's.
This is a c&p of a post from right after I went there last January:
The best thing we did was a bike tour. We did it through this company: www.neworleansbiketour.com/ (the Creole and Crescent tour). It was a great way to see a lot more of the city than we would have been able to see by foot.
We also enjoyed our cemetery tour through Save Our Cemeteries (a non-profit group). We did the St. Louis Cemetery 1 tour.
We went to Pat O'Brien's for a round on Friday afternoon and it was terrible. Well, unless you're looking to hang out in crowded bars with 50-somethings who like to dress like Britney Spears circa 2001 in which case it is awesome. Also, hurricanes are not tasty. Overall, the French Quarter is very pretty, but Bourbon Street is even worse than I had feared and so much of the area is so crowded. Kind of a shame because the architecture is lovely but it is hard to really take it in because there are so many people everywhere.
We went to both Cafe Beignet and Cafe du Monde for beignets. Yum. Both had long waits, but I'd recommend CdM for takeaway and CB if you want to linger.
We went to Jacques-Imo's, Casamento's, and Domenica for dinner. Jacques-Imo's was fine and a fun atmosphere, but I didn't think it was anything special food-wise. We really liked Casamento's (which is very casual -- oysters) and Domenica (Italian).
We enjoyed fancy cocktails at French 75 -- and they were very reasonable.
We took the St. Charles Ave streetcar to the Garden District to walk around on Sunday. Definitely recommend walking around the Garden District -- it is lovely. The streetcar was neat but a fiasco. In both directions, we waited like a half an hour and for four cars to go by because it was so crowded. In retrospect, I would have skipped the streetcar and taken a cab there. The streetcar experience just didn't live up to the hype.

I was just there!
We went on the bike tour v recommended. We loved it! It was really interesting seeing another side of the city, one we wouldn't have otherwise seen. We also ate the best beignets of the trip there at the restaurant in the park (Morning Cafe).
Places we ate: The Ruby Slipper 3 times for breakfast, Red Fish Grill (get the red fish! So good!), GW Fins with mofongo, ACME Oysters (excellent chargrilled oysters and po-boys), Comandeer's Palace - although if you want those .75 martinis, they are NOT there on the weekends, no sir. LOL. We took the streetcar to the Garden District, which was absolutely beautiful and felt like a departure from Bourbon Street. We walked through a cemetery there and went shopping downtown - lots of fun, quirky shops. My absolute favorite part of the trip was Frenchmen's Street. The music! Oh, the music! We went on a Sunday night and had such a good time, I am sure it is even better on a Friday or Saturday. There was also a small outdoor shopping area there, mainly local artists, where I found a really nice necklace and we had a poet, who was parked on the street with a typewriter write us a poem about quantum physics (yep, we were drunk).
I really loved the city. The art, the music, the food. We had the best time!

You ate at The Ruby Slipper 3 TIMES?? lol. Martinis definitely not .75 on the weekends:( Muy expensivo!!
YES! It was super close to our hotel. I got something different each time. The first time I ate fried catfish over toast, then grits and biscuits with fried eggs, then shrimp and grits for our last meal. Also, giant mimosas. GI-ANT MIMOSAS! I am still dreaming of their grits...
Dude - Ruby Slipper is SO good! I had some crazy fried chicken breast over bisquit breakfast and it wa so good. Their bloody marys are awesome, too. I thought Jacques-imo's was overrated, unfortunately, but I do love that area of town. Take the St. Charles streetcar and explore - we really loved that!
