I don't know what this means for him. Job? License? Is the fact that they are letting him go after 8 hours good? No bail? Are there degrees of severity?

I wouldn't worry about much of that just yet. I can give you some answers but much depends on his occupation, what state you are in and their specific laws.
Give yourself some time to process before worrying too much. If you want some specifics though, see your PMs for my cell #/how to find me on FB and I can tell you what happened after my H got his.
Get some sleep tonight, if you can. I know, easier said than done.
I' m so sorry for you and your little girl. Lots of thoughts and non creepy hugs your way. Please remember to be kind to yourself in the upcoming weeks, lots of water, exercise and sleep.
alzi I'm just a lurker so I'm sorry if this isn't welcome. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. My father has had 2 DUIs. On both occasions he stayed in jail overnight and was released the next day. He had a court hearing at a later date. His license was suspended, but he was given limited driving privileges to go to and from work. He also was required to take classes.
Again, I'm so sorry for the pain you're experiencing. Good luck to you!

Not entirely helpful because a different jurisdiction, but my brother's first DUI was overnight in jail, a $1000 fine and probation. I don't remember the term of probation b/c he violated it soon after. He did keep his job after the first DUI.
And I will echo Al-Anon when you're able and ready. Addiction affects so much. I hope he can find sobriety and get all the help he needs.
I'm not sure how it works in your state, but could they be letting him out on a personal recognizance bond/on his promise that he return for his court dates? Also, my guess is that his license will be suspended, but he likely will be able to get a work permit (although, this depends on what kind of license he has). Again, this is based on what I've seen working in a different state, so it could be different. I hope everything works out and he is able to get some help.
