My birthday fell during the government shutdown last year. DH and I both work for the government so he was pretty stressed about what to do if we didn't get paid. We should be cutting back, not spending much money, etc etc. In the end, the only thing that we cut out during those couple weeks was my birthday - no going out, no gift. Everything else stayed the same. I don't really care anymore, but I still give him a hard time about it.
I am pretty sure we did not exchange gifts (our birthdays are two weeks apart, so we usually go out for a nice dinner instead). I do remember that DH gave me the afternoon "off" - I sat on the porch with a book and a glass (or two) of wine for a few hours while he did something with DD, and it was great. But other than that, we didn't do anything exciting.
I would be pretty irked if he gave me onesies as a gift though. WTF?
I was 30. I was 4 days pp. It was our first day home from the hospital with G.
H got me some nice gifts - some new flip flops since I had stretched all mine out with my huge pg feet, a sephora Gc, and some nice slippers (that didn't fit my still-swollen feet, lol). And cake! He got me a really yummy ice cream cake.

Yes! It was awful. It was my 30th and I had taken the day off of work to get my hair done and get a massage. That morning I woke up terribly sick, so I canceled my events for the day and planned to lay in bed, but then daycare called to tell M had the same thing. I then had to solo parent my sick child while I was sick myself, since DH couldn't leave work. DH also didn't put any thought into it, and handed me a bag from Sephora that evening. Gee, thanks hun. I kept saying I wanted a redo, but I never got one.
Dh tried. He got his mom to babysit and took me to dinner. Within an hour of dropping off the 3mo baby we got a call to come get him because he was wailing like a banshee, wouldn't sleep and refused to take the bottle we left. We had pretty much just gotten our food. Ds1 never took another bottle after that night either.

File this post with ways that MMM has made me a better friend. Today is my best mom friend's birthday, and she has a 10 month old.
We normally don't do much aside from happy birthday texts, but I think I will drop off a small gift this afternoon just in case her H is not on the ball today.
