Could I get her to lay down in the bath or something?
I think if it's so bad she's in pain you need to see a doctor, sorry.
I agree with this. I also think you will need to use the drops for a few days before you get results. From my experience, ear wax does not usually hurt, it mostly impacts your ability to hear.
We've done the drops twice but nothing is improving and no wax is coming out and she's still in pain.
Hope it got better. Ear wax doesn't usually hurt unless it got pushed up on the ear drum tight, but that wouldn't happen with a 5 year old because it's most common when you use Q-tips for that to happen.
Do you have a bulb thing to suck baby's noses? Warm water in the ear with that (after sanitization) and then this loopy-ear wax tool is what they use at the doctor. However, I'd just have the nurses/doc try to do it on a 5 year old.

I never post here but this randomly popped up; I get ear wax buildup really bad and found out that I can use one of those blue snot sucker things filled with warm water. Shoot the water into the ear with as much force as you can (it never hurts, just feels uncomfortable) until the wax comes out. It's nasty lol, but it works great. Just have her lean the ear you are doing over the sink or tub. I had tried drops, peroxide, etc. and eventually had to go to the doctor for them to kind of do the same thing to get it out. But since this happens to me every few months I figured out a way to do it at home.
Sorry that's a bit tmi, but it's helped me so much.
ETA: I just saw the response before mine, sorry. And yeah, not sure about doing it on a 5 year old but I would assume she could tell you if it hurt too much.

She may have to have her ear irrigated, I had to have it constantly as a child. They will put wax softening drops in her ears, you'll wait a while to have the drops work, then the nurse will use a bulb "shoot" warm water in her ear and the water will move the wax out. There is probably water behind the wax which is causing the pain.
Talk to her dr and see if Murian Ear Wax removal would be safe for her to use. When her ears start to get filled with wax, you add the drops yourself, wait and then flush her ear out with the water. It's the ONLY thing I can use that doesn't give me an ear infection.

You need to take her in if she's in pain and the drops aren't helping. Get in to see a doctor. Could be an infection, could just be impacted wax, but a medical professional should be involved at this point.

I agree with taking her to a doc. I'd go to an ENT personally, but I don't need a referral. And my ENTs office is quick to get us in, usually same day if there is pain.
