I'm in the market for a new car and I have ZERO clue what I want. H has an Audi A4 so that one is off of my list for sure.
I have been leaning towards crossover type SUV's but my reason for it might be dumb. I'm hoping we'll get pg and that having that type of car would be more functional.
Anyway, I'm not dead set on anything in particular and would love to hear what you guys own and if you love or hate your cars.
Well, I have a minivan. I'm too young to be loving it as much as I do. But I have 3 kids including 1 year old twins. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have the load I do. Lol.
I just got a new car a few weeks ago. 2015 Mazda CX-5. I previously had a Mazda3 that I drove until the clutch went out. It's about the same physical exterior dimensions as the Mazda3, but somehow so much more roomy. It's beautiful, I love looking at it and driving it.
I do miss manual trans more than I expected, but this has AWD so I gain that plus being able to transport things so much easier.
I drove audis for a long time- great cars. Have a Vw now that I love too. Thinking of trading my Jetta sportwagon in on a Passat. I have a tdi (diesel) and get 45mpg.

I just got the cadillac srx crossover a few weeks ago and love it! It has all the safety features I want including backup camera that alerts you if someone's coming from the sides or your about to hit something, lane swerve avoidance, blind spot indicators, front crash alerts. Plus all the luxury items like heated steering wheel, rear hatch automatic open and close, good trunk space, full length sunroof.
I test drove the mercedes, porches and bmws and chose this over all of them. It was half the price and more bang for your buck. Plus it's an American made car and living in Detroit I feel like I'm supporting the motor city.
I saw your pregnancy note too (good luck by the way) and that's why we chose this. We're due in June and wanted a mix between safety, luxury and convenience and we 100% got it.
I have a Mazda CX-7... love it! If I ever had more than my BF, 11 year old and 100 lbs dog to tote around, I've already said I'd trade it in for the CX-9.
I drive a Ford Edge and I really like it. I got it before ever having kids in my life but it's worked out well with the stepkids now too. With the seats down (including the front seat) we can even fit a Christmas tree in there! lol
We just ordered a new car, the VW Golf GTI. DH wanted a smaller manual car and I wanted a larger automatic. We compromised I guess since we got a smaller automatic. It is a hatchback though and that was also a requirement if we went smaller. We plan on having a kid at some point and he already has two so I'm a tad concerned on the size for longer road trips, but his brother has already told us he'd give us their car top carrier, so that will help.

I got a new SRX last year and I loooove it! We have three kiddos in car seats and the dionos fit side by side in it. Plenty of room for cargo including a big stroller. Easy for the girls to climb into and me to get the baby into. It's really fun to drive, nimble and quick for a 6 cylinder. Great gas mileage, definitely tons of bells and whistles. Love love love it

Your recommendation last year was part of the reason I got mine! I remember how much you loved it and now I do too
Well, i am in a Chrysler family. My dad was corporate, then bought a dealership, and now my brother works for the finance arm. I currently have a Jeep Patriot, it is my second one. But my mom has a 2014 Grand Cherokee and I love it. She also had a 2013 and 2012 (both were sold to my siblings and my parents upgraded). A car seat works well in it (infant and convertible). It will probably be my next car but DH bought a car a month before me and my dad made me an awesome deal on the Patriot.
My dad drive a Town & Country and a Challenger SRT 8, neither are what you are looking for. But they both drive very well.

I have an Infiniti FX35 (the SUV) with all the bells and whistles. It's expensive maintenance and the premium fuel is an added expense too. But the reason I wouldn't recommend it is bc it has really bad blind spots. I am used to it now but the first like 6 months I had it I had anxiety merging onto highways bc of the blind spots. Also the back seat doors are narrow which isn't a problem now but won't work if/when we decide to have kids bc getting a car seat in and out would be a nightmare. I'm holding onto it for a while bc it's paid off and it's so friggin nice to not have a car payment anymore.
I know you live in FL but if you ever plan to drive it in snow I wouldn't recommend it. It's rear wheel drive and sucks for those conditions lol

I have a GMC Acadia and I LOVE it! All the space of a minivan....but not a minivan. Back up camera, heated seats, it drives more like a car than a truck. So easy to drive, park, etc. I'd get another one when this one dies.

Ahh! That's so cool!! We are big auto enthusiasts and don't go into any purchase without loads of research. I even drove them as loaner cars probably 3 times since we were having trouble with my other vehicle so I considered them extended test drives .
jm1211, my H is a serious automotive addict, he's also a mechanic (Aircraft by trade and auto as a passion) whatever you decide to lean toward, if you have questions, please feel free to ask. He is biased toward GM but open to other brands and is always fair in comparisons! Good luck!!!

We drove an Acadia when we went to CA a couple years ago and I loved it. Great vehicle and we drove a ton (flew in to San Francisco, my grandparents live in San Mateo, and we stayed in Monterey). I would seriously consider buying one if we didn't get employee pricing with Chrysler.

I have a CX-5 as well and LOVE it! It is by far the best car I've had. My husband is in the car business and we tend to switch cars often, but I think I will keep this one for a while. Great ride and looks good.
I was always a VW person but def converted after buying my Mazda3 (10 years old with no more than $1000 worth of repairs ever into it, until the clutch went. If I wasn't already in the market for a new car and the value wasn't so low, I prob would have just fixed it).
Re: some other replies:
DH had a Chrysler Pacifica at one point and i LOVED LOVED LOVED that car! He ended up totaling it (oops) and I cried. It was the perfect size, it drove beautifully. I wish they still made them, I would have bought one (or actually I would have just taken his and let him get a new car when it was time!)
DH's granny just bought the Caddy SRX and they love it! IL's just got a Toyota Highlander.
And about the Volvo SUV, a good friend of ours was in an accident w/rollover in his and he literally walked away from the car without a scratch. He loved that darn car!
All very great safety ratings on all of the cars that were mentioned here. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
We have an old Taurus and a 2012 Fusion, so no SUVs here, but my sister just bought a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Touring. She absolutely loves it. Before, she had a Mazda6 and finds the cx-5 is a much smoother ride and has better gas mileage. It's pretty spacious inside while still having a small profile. It also has a backup camera and all the other bells and whistles. Eventually I'd like a crossover SUV, and I'm most interested in the Subaru Outback.
kellsbellesmajick143 My mom is on her second SRX and she LOVES it. I love her car too (you can flame me for this) I was trying to avoid it so I wouldn't copy her! lol I am going to add this one to my list after your input! Oh and majick I will definitely be reaching out, I'm going to need all the help I can get. H is mechanically challenged lol so I need to make sure this is a good buy. I tend to keep cars until I drive them into the ground!
xokell2 I'm kind of glad to hear you hate the Acura, I was going back and forth on the MDX but haven't heard feed back from anyone either way. Gas mileage isn't great.
aak0517 I haven't had a car payment in 3 years, this sucks! I've been protesting buying a new car but when you blinker controls you instrument panel and not your actual blinker you know it's time! lol
gringachef I fell in love with H's Audi, I just have a hard time with the expensive maintenance and premium gas. I LOVE the Q5 though!
I'm going test drive some of your suggestions this weekend so keep them coming! I forgot about the Acadia...
I have a Mazda CX-7... love it! If I ever had more than my BF, 11 year old and 100 lbs dog to tote around, I've already said I'd trade it in for the CX-9.
We need to have drinks and I can check out/test drive your car lol BEFORE the drinks of course! lol

And FYI - if you want brand new Mazda no longer makes the CX-7 - just the CX-5, which is a little smaller and the CX-9 now.
