I will say that pamela is the same pamela who "grew up poor" even though her family owned their own business and employed several employees. So pamela will firmly be on my list of "people who don't get it".
Pamela's husband is maybe 1/8 or 1/4 Mexican (if I recall). So if she's arguing "it's not racist because my husband is Mexican...." It's like me trying to represent the German immigrant experience or whatever because I'm 1/4 German.
OK, if this is true, than this makes me extra grumpy. I thought he was Mexican as in born and raised in Mexico and then came to the US as a young adult or later.
I'm 3/4 Mexican (not just Hispanic). I win. *grumble, grumble, grumble*
I am so happy to see this thread. I saw that on MM earlier and couldn't muster more than a "Fix it, Jesus" to myself. Lol
I think I have established that I'm pretty ride or die for MM. That said, there's no sense in having a conversation like that on MM. That's not what it's for to me. That's why I've always visited MM and a predominantly AA board. All of the shit that's been happening across the country and I haven't seen a single thread about it or reference to it. Not one peep. I would never start one because like I said, that's not what MM is for to me, but that is kind of the same reason I wouldn't even bother engaging in that thread. There's really no point.
@songforyou, you reminded me of this little discussion, which stayed with me for a few days afterward:

Omg. People have gone to that board to ask advice for finances. lol. Those posters shouldn't be giving advice on shapes and primary colors, let alone budgets. I am aghast.
Oh please.
Shall we assume that because Pamela and Sisugal (or whatever she calls herself over here) post on this board they're representative of the whole board?
Most Americans have a really fucked up way of looking at Mexicans so I'm not surprised people on MM don't think this Mexican caricature is offensive. "How can something be offensive if that's what they really are?" said the gaggle of rich white girls innocently. And that's the problem. It's not offensive to them because at its essence, this is all a Mexican person will ever be to them, a nameless stereotype. Right? That's the message, anyway.

I think she's referring to MM on the old board, not our current MM.
I agree with others that the creation of MMM was sort of a death keel for MM. I don't think MMM has any animosity to MM, though. I think that by the time GBCN was created, the irritation with @ posts was mostly gone. But the posters with kids wanted a place to discuss baby crap that wasn't the Bump, and they didn't want MM to become a baby board. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone thought about the fact that so many MM posters would start to consider the baby board home. And by this point, many (most?)of the MMM posters were never on MM.
MM has been my home board for almost 9 years, but I don't post there as often as I post on MMM or even on the CEP makeup thread (I'm taking baby steps into the rest of CEP). But the only solution is for me to post there more -- and hope others do too.

Eh, I think MM still doles out solid personal budgeting advice. Honestly, they've been a big help from me from my years of lurking. But I have no idea what their investment advice is like because LOL that I have investments to need advice about.

Not every small business owner is making money, you realize that right? They have to pay the employees first. And then hope there are profits left to take home
And my husband of Mexican descent is entitled to his take on "appropriating his culture ".

I remember when we first got to GBCN and were all "Everyone's can post everywhere!" "We can get to know new people!" and then we settled back into similar posting patterns within our "home boards". lol I think a lot of this somewhat recent board switching might be some delayed aspect of that.
I think that most of the boards feel a little slower to me than they used to be. I would guess that over time, we lose some people. At the same time, I don't think we really gain many new people (DWP doesn't count). We aren't that easy to find. So as some boards slow down, people have more time to check out other boards too. Those are my deep thoughts for the day.

100%
Sorry! I swear you have said or implied otherwise in the past.

I agree about being slower, and that we lose more people, than I think we gain here, at times. Already so far, this the longest amount of time I've been active on the boards in years, I think, and it's really because I hopped over to CEP and found that I couldn't shut myself up! lol
I, for one, could not be happier about it. I'm looking forward to the trip I'm certain you'll be making to Oakland to GTG with me.

I felt very confined to my corner on the nest, but I'm comfortable posting everywhere here. Not that I do, necessarily.

You should post and ask questions.
I have! Even under an AE a couple of times. DUN DUN DUN
But investment questions? All I have is my 403b and DD's paltry 529. That's all I foresee having for the next zillion years. Student loan debt sucks, yo.

Yeah, I specifically said those posters shouldn't be giving advice, not that board shouldn't be giving advice.
