I know this has been discussed a million times before, but the search function is being all wonky for me.
Other than Lucie's List, were there any other helpful checklists/guides you used to create your baby registry?
What are your registry must haves? Any lesser known things I should add?
Any recommendations are appreciated.
Trying to figure out what a baby will need/want is stressing me out to the max. My mom keeps recommending all this crap she had with me that I NEED NEED NEED (do I really need a high chair that connects to the tabletop? lol).
I made mine with a combination of Lucie's List, Baby Bargains, and the "registry builder" lists from Amazon and BRU. Haven't had my baby yet so I'm not sure what my "must haves" are, but I think we have a good mix of stuff on there
I used Lucie's List but I don't think she has a humidifier on the list. I got it as a gift and it's been so helpful when DD is congested at night.
Ooh, thanks. I walked by the humidifiers at BRU, but didn't love any of them. I made a mental note to check out Target and completely forgot.
As someone who has gone through at least 4 humidifiers in the last 3 years, I'd go with something that doesn't use filters and is easy to clean ( Ie, the tank opening is big enough to get your hand in). I have 3 that I don't use because I either don't have a filter when I need it or they are so hard to clean that I don't want to use them.
Edit: When I had my oldest, Baby Bargains was the "go to" list.
The one thing they suggested, that I suggest to everyone is side snap t-shirts for first few weeks.
Tiffany's must haves: Flannel burpcloths (we have gerber, I find they absorb a lot and are rather large. Get like 2 packs of these) Gerber 4 Count Flannel Burp/Diaper, Ducks amzn.com/B00ARTROYO Receiving blankets (you can use them for everything: as a blanket, burp cloth, to catch/soak up leaked milk. We have about 10-15, that's just the way it happened, but we've found them very useful. Get at least 6-8) Swaddle blankets A few fluffy thick blankies Ear thermometer Bulb syringe also might want nose frida Little noses saline (or you can make your own with water and salt) Gas drops Tylenol (haven't used yet but I like having it just in case!) Hairbrush and comb Bathtub Baby shampoo/soap Baby lotion Hooded towels Washcloths Butt paste Nail files Baby qtips or regular qtips (I've used a few times to clean out earwax from very outer ear. Oh and a booger once) Rubbing alcohol (for umbilical cord stump. Although I've heard of other hospitals using something else to dry it up--ask at baby care class) Boppy (great for feeding, holding, tummy time, etc) You might find a moby or sleepy wrap indispensable if baby gets clingy. I have the sleepy. I think sleepy might've changed name to boba. Not sure though.
I really liked always infinity overnight with wings for the postpartum bleeding Take your squirt bottle home (heck ask for an extra if you want) Stool softener
Bottles: If you do bottles, you'll want a microwave steamer. I think you can put pump parts in here too, but could be wrong. Munchkin Steam Guard Microwave Sterilizer amzn.com/B000V9DXGS
Dishwasher basket Bottle drying rack Bottle brush Bottle warmer if you're going to be doing lots of bottles
Some things I found/find helpful: Pack and play with bassinet and changing table for downstairs
Swing
Medline Disposable Washcloths - Ultra-Soft Dry Cleansing Wipes, 10" x 13" - Qty of 500 Model ULTRASOFT1013 amzn.com/B0022077CK
If baby gets bad rash, these work really well as baby wipes, just wet with water
You might want some barrier cream if the kid doesn't have a rash but maybe a bit irritated or getting over a rash Remedy Olivamine Clear-Aid Skin Protectant, 2.5 Oz amzn.com/B008Y1KYLM
We use chuck pads on the pack and play changing table (and on our bed when we are upstairs and need to change her) Depending on how bad your bleeding is, you might want to sleep on one. I did for the peace of mind for a week or so.
Oh and a chair with arms is soooo helpful when trying to nurse.
Clothing: Footie jammies: 4 or 5 Onesies: 5 or 6
Things I'm going to look into buying soonish because I think we're coming up on the time to use them/would be helpful: Binky leashes Bumbo chair
Stuff I've heard is useful but I don't have or haven't used: Hats (can't get them to stay on her head) Socks (can't get them to stay on) Mittens (nicu recommended against) Those gown things (never had chance to get them but can see how they might be useful)

Everyone has their own ideas on must haves. I liked Baby Bargains, not everyone does though.
My advice is to start basic and layer on once the baby is here as needed. My kid hated to swing or vibrate and slept in his crib immediately. The swing and RNP were not needed. I quit trying to BF on day 4, so all that crap went back. My kid never spit up, so the burp cloths were a waste. I spent too much on an infant seat that my boy outgrew in 7 months.
Favorite things are a white noise machine, good humidifier, mam pacifiers and Halo Velcro swaddled sacks.
So far, M has used his sleep sacks every night. A humidifier is a must. M sleeps in his rock and play more than the bassinet in his pack and play. Dont register for clothes, but onesies that zip are much better for MOTN changes than the snaps. I LOATHE snaps!

I actually think Lucie's List is really good. It is relatively restrained, especially compared to what BBB or TRU will give you.
All you really need are things for baby to wear, a place for baby to sleep, feeding supplies, diapers, and a carseat. A place for baby to hang out, some toys, a carrier, high chair and other supplies for a few months down the road are bonuses.
I also preferred snap sleepers FWIW. It's hard to get the baby's leg out of the side without a zipper.
Lucie's list recommends these zipper sheets so you can just take off the top part, rather than taking out the crib mattress. Is this that big of a deal? I'm not loving the colors. lol

No.
I layered. Mattress protector, sheet, matress protector, sheet. Kid puked at 2 am? Peel off the first layer and WALLA! Everyone is back in bed in five minutes.

No. I've had to change the sheets in the MOTN exactly zero times so far. Maybe if your kid ends up being a puker you can invest in some, but they are not a must have.
My personal preference for the babies I take care of, are those sleeper gowns. You just yank them up to change the diaper, then yank them back down. My grandmother and mother call them "sweet pea" gowns, from the Popeye cartoons. Anyway, I love those, so easy. The only thing they suck for are carseats.
For footed sleepers, I prefer zippers to snaps. Snaps are a PITA, and I usually mess them up, even wide awake and well rested.

Oh, so smart! Ok, that works for me. How many mattress protectors and sheets did you have? I'm currently registered for 3 crib sheets and 2 mattress protectors. I'm thinking maybe I want to go up by 1 on each so I have a spare set?

I am actually going through my list right now.. I bought most of the big item things myself, some of the stuff I have on my registry:
-baby hangers (good filler item) -space saver high chair -bottle starter set -a few pacifiers -washcloths -about 6 pairs of socks -drying rack -aveeno baby essentials (wash, shampoo, lotion) -baby tub -sensitive wipes -pack n play (i want to use it in our bedroom for days she sleeps with us, but we'll also be going to grandparents house a lot) -swaddle blankets -a basic pack of bibs -rock n play -digital fan -humidifier -bumbo -safety kit -
I layered. Mattress protector, sheet, matress protector, sheet. Kid puked at 2 am? Peel off the first layer and WALLA! Everyone is back in bed in five minutes.

I think I had three of each, but my kid had reflux and spit up a lot. Once it calmed down, I wasn't changing sheets so often.

I have one mattress protector and maybe 4 sets of sheets (which is too many), and 2 sleep sacks.
I have never changed sheets in the MOTN with my almost 2 year old. We have had a few minor diaper leaks (generally when it's time to size up - those overnight diapers hold endless amounts) and a small nosebleed once that I discovered in the morning. I did not have a spitter/puker.
