We get her 2-3 things, but I can see it totally depending on what the thing is to determine how many she will get. This year she's getting legos, a matching game and a minnie mouse tshirt. She gets loads of stuff from the rest of our family and her bday is right after Christmas so this is way more than enough. I found all of it on clearance or at a garage sale though, so while I would say I probably have a $50 budget for bdays, I know I spent way less and I don't feel any need to buy more just because.

I do smaller stuff. Ds gets to choose between a trip and friend party from us. He's chosen the trip the past two years so that's more the present. We gave him a few small clearance sale toys (think $5) at the resort and I'll probably wrap up a Christmas toy like an action figure for the actual day but that's about it.
Eta we usually buy dd a bigger present because the whole social thing isn't something she enjoys.

Yes but not huge things. As they get older and voice their wants, they'll get bigger stuff. For DD' s first birthday she got tub toys. DS turns one 12/28 and is getting some Melissa and Doug truck things. We do parties and cake I love birthdays but my kids don want/need anything. When they do, they'll get more

We buy presents for the kids, usually in the $50 dollar range. They also get a present from my parents and an amazon gift card from my sister (she lives in Australia).
Jack is in first grade this year and we will probably throw him a birthday party with classmates for the first time. I'll still get him a present though. Growing up, we always got a present on our birthdays (usually a bigger ticket item than what friends would give).
We do 3-4 things depending on what they want that year. All three sets of grandparents do gifts, plus whatever friends give at the birthday party. It ends up being a ton of stuff.
