What an incredible animal. Nice picture, @que?. We have them at our local zoos. It's amazing to be close when they are contained so I can only imagine how cool to see them out just walking around. (hot)

Amazing!
When I was a kid, the movie Willow made me SO PETRIFIED of wolves. I thought they were under my bed.
I'm cool now, though.
ETA: Also, I saw a possum yesterday, darting out from under one car and then scurrying under another. I barely saw it and thought it was a misshapen cat at first. I'm still shuddering every time I think of it. City possums, blech.
OMG - I would die of happiness if I saw a wild wolf (from a safe distance ; ) ). He's so beautiful - what area of the country are you in? Lucky you for seeing him - that would have made my week!
This was near Banff.
I was just coming to ask this. Banff is beautiful!
Wolves are incredibly shy, and I've heard that hybrids are too. Is that true usuallylurking?
Sorry, busy day with DS1's preschool Christmas concert so I'm just seeing this I wouldn't characterize him as shy, he's actually VERY social - it's like he needs to have "play dates" by seeing other people because it brings him such joy. However, he does get "feelings" about people because he reads them so well. He won't go up to just anyone, won't let just anyone pet him, etc. because his senses, particularly his sense of smell, is so incredibly sharp.
But, my H also put a LOT of time into training him to be that way. Usually they are very shy, but H (then bf) read a lot about them and was very diligent in getting him out everywhere, bringing him to all different kinds of places, "messing" with him while he was eating or sleeping, changing when and where and how he fed him, poking and prodding his gums, pads of his feet, underbelly, etc because of all of the ways that owning a hybrid can tend to go wrong for people. He very clearly considers us his pack, as well as our 2 other dogs, and each time we brought a newborn home he was told and knew that that boy was ahead of him. We went to the zoo in anchorage and it was so crazy to watch that pack of wolves and see the exact same mannerisms that we've come to see in Koda. It's really remarkable!
