I asked because of the conversation on CEP about the split of MMM from MM. I was just thinking that by this point, probably most of the people on MMM came here after the split and were never MM peeps. And I was curious if that was accurate :-)

I was a lurker at the old place. It fit my life really well at the time. The split to MMM was at a time where mom stuff was more relevant so I ended up here and don't have much time for MM anymore.
Does anyone else see the animosity we supposedly have for MM? I can't think of a single thread where any was displayed but I have a terrible board memory. I thought it was the mods who pushed for us to become our own board as opposed to a sub board of MM.
i was a regular in the old place under a different sn. i try to pop over there more now that i'm less singularly focused on my kid, but it's just not the same.
for a while i didn't find the money conversations very applicable because we had a solid budget/savings/etc., but not enough money to invest heavily in MM 201 type things. having a kid has kind of derailed our budget and good spending habits so now i'm on the hunt for a budget focused community for chit chat and accountability. not really something i'll get from MM here.

i'm 99% sure the mods presented the idea because MMM had the 4th highest traffic of any board on GBCN so the community was clearly saying that it was a valuable space and could stand on it's own. and i'm pretty sure most of us were like "sure! one less click!" there was no "heck yes, separate us. we hate MM."

The initial vote was against separate boards but I was a pioneer in championing the cause.
Also a champion for the sticky due date thread, RIP.
(wilted)clearly my memory is failing. i just remember being all about the separate boards. it makes sense.
i'm also all for changing the name to something more generic (like Moms and Dads, aka MAD), because it's clearly not a money focused board.

We could have those conversations here!
I post here when it's applicable, but much of the convo isn't applicable to me because of my kids' ages.
If there were more of those type of convos that aren't just about cloth diapers and such, I'd be more active!
we definitely could and i would participate! i'll probably still seek out a place that is solely focused on finances just because i want to, but more money conversations are never bad to me.

No, not at all. From what I remember, at the old place, there got to be a lot of baby related threads, so there was a move to mark all baby posts with "@." So, then people started doing that, and it worked fairly well. Then, when we moved over here, those of us who were interested in talking about baby and kid stuff with our MM friends/people who weren't Bump crazies thought it would be nice if we had a separate MM moms board so we would have a sane place as an alternative to the Bump. I don't remember any animosity. I actually remember some people being against splitting the board because they didn't want to have all the people with babies go to a different board and abandon MM.
I'm old school and hate change, so I voted against MMM becoming a separate board. Even though now I do enjoy the fact that it's separate :-)

Why do you think you feel that way? I'll be the first to agree that MM isn't the same as it used to be, but I do believe that the core posters there are all pretty money savvy.
I actually really want to start doing a real household budget for the first time in, basically, ever. And when I really get serious about it, the first thing I plan to do is post on MM for input! I'd love to chat about actual household budgeting (either here or MM, but it seems to fit better on MM). Old MM (like, really old -- 2007 or so) used to have a lot of that.
The core posters that are left, at least the vocal ones, all seem pretty *gasp* rich.
It's hard to feel like you want to debate the merits of where to cut ten bucks off your budget with people getting 5 and 6 figure bonuses.
I could see that. But are they all really rich? I mean, yes -- several are. But I'm sure there are many who aren't, it's just that they don't post so much about what they make, you know?
I don't know, maybe I have rose colored glasses. Maybe after Christmas (when I get my act together) I'll post my household budgeting questions and see what kind of answers I get!!!

Commenting that the board is slow, and likely because people mostly have babies and move to the Mom Board isn't exactly "animosity". It's just... true.

Sure, if put that way.
It wasn't put that way there.
"We don't think we're better. We just find a certain irony in a board that ran off the parents and now moans about how there are no posts" sounds like animosity to me? For example.
Unrelated: rereading that post reminds me of how stupid the makeup sub-board was.

I was just saying in a randoms the other day that I wanted to talk about money (I don't know what specifically, I want someone else to start)! I'm in a similar spot. Not a total novice, but need some motivation to tighten up the budget, and I'd like to start saving for a down payment and learn more about buying a home.
this is where we're at. if we ever want out of our rental we need to tighten our financial belt significantly. the thing is, i don't really need advice on how to save or what to cut. i want a community (here or elsewhere) that celebrates the "i skipped starbucks today and saved $35 on my grocery bill - $40 more in our down payment fund!" type stuff. i feel like that sort of stuff doesn't get a lot of love here (mmm or mm). it might get views, but not much for discussion.

Oh but this board is focused on money - how to spend money, not save it. Or save money while spending like when people post Amazon PSAs which lead to me buying a piano mat and a pink (!!!) Maxi Cosi convertible.
MM is where I would go if I wanted to cut cable which I won't because how else will I get my kid to watch Sprout long enough to post here?

I considered MM my home board for a long time (I now consider this my home board). I have no animosity towards MM but I post over here more. I wish MM was more active and I am a little sad that it has gotten so slow. I rarely start posts on either board, but if I have a general topic or something money related I will try to ask over there. Money topics still interest me so I try to participate when I see something I want to talk about.
I think the animosity is just from a few posters.
I did not really want MMM to become its own board, I was happy with it being a sub-board. However I do visit MM less now than when we were a sub-board.
